Does anyone have an idea what the Colorado Volleyball landscape looks like? is there enough talent to compete nationally with just home grown prospects?

Liz Kritza has her MBB season tix next to me, so I've talked to her. I've also been reading the volleyball articles since my wife's kind of a fan. It looks like National #1 Penn State and Big 12 #1 Nebraska have both recruited girls out of our state recently. We seem to be one of the better states in the nation for girls prep volleyball. Definitely can form the foundation of our team from in-state. Need to supplement a bit from International and California plus the odd player from Texas or our region, but we can win pretty big if we can build a wall around the state in recruiting.

It would be awesome if we could get this program built back up enough to piss in the Husker's Cheerio's from time to time.

You betcha. Looking back at the rankings of players finishing their senior year of high school, you could have a team, for the 2010-11 season, of 13 Colorado kids who were all ranked in the top 100 nationally the year they were high school seniors. Of course it would be totally unrealistic to think you ever get them all to go to CU, but the talent is definitely here to provide a good core of a team. California and Texas still seem to have the majority of the top high school players.

Kritza has now completely transformed the roster.

She has brought in 15 new players for this season (9 freshmen and 6 transfers).

Last year, we played with a 12-person roster so there would be space to make so many moves this offseason.

We are only returning 2 players from last season's 7-22 (2-18 Big 12) team:

Kerra Schroeder - 6'0" Outside Hitter (Sophomore - originally from San Diego / Torrey Pines HS)

Rosie Steinhaus - 6'1" Outside Hitter (Junior - originally from Flagstaff, AZ / Flagstaff HS)

Steinhaus and Schroeder were 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in both Kills and Blocks for the Buffs last season.

holy ****. thats some ****ing turnover. highest height was 6'2? Thats not very tall, even for womens VB.

You'd like a bit more height. For example, Penn State's 3-time defending national champion team had two players at 6'5", three at 6'3" and one at 6'2". In all, 9 of their 15 players were 6'0" or taller. By comparison, 6 of our 17 players are 6'0" or taller. We do have another 7 who are 5'10" or 5'11", though, whereas PSU didn't have another player above 5'9". Seems like they've got a roster of prototype players at the different positions while CU is going to feature a more versatile roster. Hopefully we've got enough.

It will be an interesting season. I hope these new players have bought in to the coaching staffs approach to the game. The 2 returning players are quality players but they need a bunch of help. Really key will be the transfer setter, I think, since , without a good setter, you have no cohesive offense.

Price of season tickets was lowered greatly. Kritzka needs to get people to come in and watch her team. I hope these kids can become a decent team in the Big 12 and eventually do more than knock off Nebraska every year or two at home.
