BOULDER – The University of Colorado sophomore Esther Lee (women’s golf) and senior Greg Henderson (football) earned CU Athlete of the Week honors Wednesday for their play during the week of September 15-21.
Lee played an important role in the University of Colorado women’s golf team’s second place finish at the Minnesota Invitational last week in Minneapolis, Minn. She finished tied for eighth overall with a 75-76-71–222, or 6-over par for the tournament and had the best individual score for the Buffs. Colorado tied a school record with four players finishing in the top 15 and was the only team to accomplish such a feat in the tournament. The newcomer was the only player in the field to card a sub-par round in the final 18 holes, recording a 1-under 71.
In playing all 78 snaps from scrimmage in Colorado’s 21-12 win over Hawai’i, Henderson recorded eight tackles, six solo, one for a quarterback sack), along with a forced fumble, a recovery, four passes broken up, two third down stops, a quarterback hurry and one tackle for zero. He earned four of those stats on one play: in the first quarter with Hawai’i driving with a 3rd-and-7 at the CU 21, he blitzed, sacked UH QB Ikaika Woolsey, forced him to fumble and was able to somehow also recover it (so, he had a QBS, FF, FR and a 3DS on the same play). The play helped Colorado hold an opponent to no touchdowns for the first time in 51 games (the 2010 season opener).
