LSU at Ole Miss

If there wasn't time to get the FG team in the run the ****ing last play - don't spike it - what bungling.

WTF are you doing Les... Jesus..

You have to have your FG team ready to run on the field and snap it..

And then they wasted 15 seconds after the 3rd down play before calling the TO.. Time they could of used at the end.

Jesus Les.. What a moron..

Yea exactly. His reason about not having time to get the FG unit on the field made sense, but like you said, if that's the case, then just run a play at that point. Unless he thought that they could get the spike before the clock ran out.

I don't know if it's harder to lose that way, or just to let Clete Blakeman wind the clock for you--even though no other official does it.

What an awesome game!

Epic fail is a bit of an understatement. How do you not have your FG team ready to go immediately on the sidelines in that situation? Use some backup OL to block if you can't get your guys on the field ready to go... seriously...

Really, Les (I mean God bless him for his time with the Buffs and all) has demonstrated a certain stupidity at the end of games that only serendipity has remedied.

His win vs. Auburn a year or two ago, where he demonstrated a complete lack of awareness of the clock, and took an uneccessary wild-ass gamble that somehow paid off springs to mind.

Pretty difficult to get a FG team on the field and set to go before the clock runs down with only :01 left. Gotta just run a play. Les just couldn't believe Toliver caught that pass.

my thoughts exactly.

They caught Miles before he left the field after the game, and she asked him why he didn't try a field goal. Miles said they didn't have enough time to line it up. Second question should have been, why didn't you have the field goal personnel ready on the sideline in case that happened. Not to mention burning about 17 seconds before he calls his last timeout, leaving only 9 seconds left. He also has no play called for Jefferson with one play left. Vern Lunquist was screaming what are you doing? He let his players down, he should take full responsibility for this loss. Jesus, Hawkins has got some competition. Oh, they said the Klan rally lasted 10 minutes - dumbasses! laughing.gif

Are you surprised? They play to sparse crowds anymore.

News article said they were heckled the entire time by a crowd of over 250 people, including women and children. Was listening to The Point After - LSU's post game show. Les Miles was asked about wasting 17 seconds before he called his last time out. Miles said the time out was called, but it was not contacted to the officials. What?

There was 1 second left with no time outs. Once the official spots the ball he can start the clock anytime he likes. There is no way they would have been able to run the unit, set up, and snap it with 1 second left. As it was the spike it team didn't get the ball off and they were right there.

LSU would not be the first college team to use their time outs before they really needed them.

The folly, IMO - was spiking the ball.

There was no way they were going to get the field goal team on in time. There was no way they were going to be able to spike the ball with one second left and STILL have time to run a play.

They should have lined up, and run a play for the endzone. At least that would have given them a chance to win the game. What they did ensured that they had NO CHANCE to win the game.

The whole offense was running down the field to get lined up. You can't, obviously, entrust college kids to call their own plays.

No, no, no, the special teams coach should have had them ready to run on the field immediately after the long pass completion. There was at least 15 seconds that went by when the officials and the chain crew had to run over 40 yards to reset. If you watched the game Vern Lunquist was screaming what is going on. In addition Miles had no play called for his quarterback who just turned 19. You could see all of the LSU players pleading with the coaching staff - what do you want us to do? Miles days are numbered, that stupidity may get by at some programs, but will never be accepted by LSU. We have lots of money to go out and get a better coach.

I missed the last of the game. Fire trucks, Sheriff Deputies and emergency personnel where pulling up outside.

I ran outside to find out what was going on. It was two houses down with smoke in there house.

When I got back inside my wife told me I missed an exciting ending to the game. She said LSU could have kicked a winning field goal but messed up.
