Buff Soccer (3-2-0, 0-0-0) has its last home non-conference match tomorrow afternoon hosting the Cal State - Fullerton Titans (0-5-0, 0-0-0) starting at 4:00 PM MT, and then is scheduled to head off to West Lafayette, IN to face off against The Purdue Boilermakers (3-1-2, 0-0-0) this Sunday at 11:00*** AM MT (1:00 PM EDT).
(***The Purdue schedule lists the match as starting at 1:00 PM their time, so I assume that equals 11:00 AM MT. (Everything I could find via quick Google search told me Purdue is in the Eastern time zone.) However, I may be missing something, as the CU schedule currently says the match begins noon MT.)

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER – Colorado hosts Cal State Fullerton on Thursday (4 p.m.), in its last home match of the non-conference season. The Buffs will play its next three after the Titans on the road, including the start of the Pac-12 season.

Colorado (3-2-0) has been able to outscore opponents 7-4 this season with all four goals against coming against No. 1 Florida State and No. 6 TCU. The +3 in goals is a number that only figures to increase with the amount of emerging talent on the Buffs' roster.

So far this season, Colorado's offense has gotten points from 12 different players. That number matches all of last season's contributors in the shortened 18-game season. Sophomore Shyra James leads the team in points (6) and goals (3) as she did in 2020.

"We have really had a lot of players contribute to our attack this fall," head coach Danny Sanchez commented. "We are pleased to have different options and are still searching for the best combinations. The competition has been fantastic and will only help us as we move forward."
....

Cal State Fullerton (0-5-0) enters Thursday being outscored 10-3 this season. The Titans have lost their last two matches by a 2-1 result, both on the road, at Texas Tech and UC Irvine. Fullerton's goalkeeper Noa Schumacher is second in the Big West (45th NCAA) with her 6.0 saves per game. She's had to be on her toes this season, making 24 saves on 39 shots on goal.

Brad Thompson will have the call on Pac-12 Insider. You can find Pac-12 Insider on Samsung TV Plus, Roku, Redbox and Vizio among other on-demand options.

Buffs (Palangi) extended the lead in the 60th minute, then Fullerton got their 1st in the 70th minute.

Buffs win 4-2. Some of the best possession and short passing from the Buffs I've seen in a while. Good communication and patience for much of the game.

Hopcraft had a 50 + yard run that she finished with a goal from the top of the box. Don't know that I've seen that from a Buff before. Also the passing led to Rachel Rosen's goal was really something.

And finally, Haileigh Adams had a successful return from injury.

BOULDER – Four different Buffaloes and a pair of first-timer goal scorers helped Colorado to a 4-2 win over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. Senior Haileigh Adams and sophomore Rachel Rosen netted their first career goals in the Buffaloes' final home non-conference match of the season.

Colorado (4-2-0) scored two goals on four shots on goal in the first half. Shanade Hopcroft scored her first goal of the season to get the CU offense rolling. Adams, playing in her 76th career game, scored her goal right before the end of the half.

Junior Allie Palangi netted the eventual game-winner and Rosen added insurance in the second half.

"This was the best we have played on the attack," head coach Danny Sanchez said of his team's offense. "Not because we scored. Sometimes that's the byproduct of it, but I thought our movement was very good today. I thought the thought process was good. I thought we were getting numbers really well. I don't know that we created more chances today than we did on Sunday [against Stony Brook], but we scored some good goals. There's nothing cheap about any of them."

Dani Hansen played 64 minutes, recording the win. She made two saves before giving way to freshman Bella Grust for the final 26 minutes. Grust faced four shots on net and made two saves in relief.

Haley Brown and Nadi Amezcua recorded the Titans' goals, both coming in the final 20 minutes of play.

Preview for tomorrow's match at Purdue. (Still not sure if the CU listed time (noon MT) or my calculated time (11:00 AM MT) is correct.)

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – Colorado returns to Big Ten Country for the first time in 2018, making a quick stop in West Lafayette, Ind., for Sunday's matchup against Purdue (Noon MT, B1G+).

Colorado's (4-2-0) last trip to a Big Ten opponent was a successful 3-0 result at Michigan State. The Buffs hope to have the same success against a talented Boilermaker squad. CU is 0-2-0 all-time against Purdue, playing a home-and-home series in 2010 and 2011.

"We're excited for the opportunity to head to Purdue this weekend," head coach Danny Sanchez noted. "Purdue is having a great season. We know it's going to be a tremendous match. We're hoping to continue with our momentum from the last couple of games. We know defensively, Purdue will offer a lot more challenges. Offensively, we need to be creative."

That momentum is something that was on display in bunches against Cal State Fullerton. The Buffs had four different goal scores, including first-career tallies from senior Haileigh Adams and sophomore Rachel Rosen. Junior Allie Palangi and senior Shanade Hopcroft recorded the other scores. Colorado totaled 13 points in the contest, the most since posting 18 against Northern Colorado in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

"I think we have a lot of potential," Palangi commented. "I think we're a really good team. Everyone is showing their potential, even the freshmen. They have really stepped up. I'm just really excited for what we're going to do this season."

Purdue (4-1-2) enters Sunday on a two-game win streak, besting Kansas State and Saint Louis. The Boilermakers have allowed just five goals this season and lead the Big Ten with 4.57 saves per game. Offensively, Purdue is led by Sarah Griffith with 4.67 shots per game (17th NCAA). She's also second in the Big Ten with five goals this season (19th NCAA).

Sunday's match starts a three-game road swing for the Buffs. CU will be in Denver on Sept. 19 and then open the Pac-12 season on Sept. 25 at California.

Looks like the match did have an 11:00 AM MT start, so it has (just) begun, with no score in the 11th minute.

Not looking good in this one, as Purdue went up 1-3 in the 62nd minute. That's still the score in the 75th minute.
