The soccer team (8-7-4 overall, 2-6-2 in Pac 12 play) is back in Boulder for its last*** regular season match of the season as it has its traditional last match against the Utah Utes (6-7-5, 2-5-3) tomorrow afternoon.

(***With their RPI of 63 and Utah's at 61, assume the Buffs will need to take care of business tomorrow and have LOTS of wins from its non-conference opponents (and their past opponents) to have any chance of even being in the conversation of being an NCAA tourney team this season. Mainly, assume they'll just be looking for one more great match playing with their teammates who they've worked so hard with for many years.)

Go Buffs!!!

Preview now out, with all of it being about the 7 seniors. (Especially hope they can soak up and relish every minute tomorrow.) - https://cubuffs.com/news/2022/11/3/soccer-senior-celebration-set-for-final.aspx

BOULDER – Colorado will hope to send the team's seven seniors off on a high note on Friday. The Buffaloes' season will come to a conclusion, hosting Utah at Prentup Field (3 p.m. Pac-12 Networks).

The team will honor all seven departing seniors in a pregame ceremony. The Senior Day festivities are set to at 2:43 p.m. The group of honorees includes Kayleigh Webb, Civana Kuhlmann, Hannah Cardenas, Allie Palangi, Alyssa Duke, Hannah Sharts and Dani Hansen.

"It's a unique group like we've talked about," head coach Danny Sanchez commented. "We have seven seniors with players like Hannah Sharts, Hannah Cardenas and Civana Kuhlmann who are actually in their sixth year of college. It's just unique with injuries, redshirting and COVID. Dani Hansen and Kayleigh Webb are both in their fifth year and then the two traditional kinds of four-year seniors [Allie Palangi and Alyssa Duke] and they are all fantastic young women.

"They are leaders not only within the team with the three captains but in the department if you look at what Hannah Sharts was able to do with the Soccer Ball. Civana has been able to resurrect her career and she'll be playing professionally here soon. Alyssa already graduated from the Leeds School of Business and will have her MBA in May. Allie plans to continue playing somewhere next year that has a nursing program. Dani will be off the flight school. We have successful young women that are great representatives of the department and the program."

Fans through the gates on Friday will receive a voucher for a Chip bobblehead doll. The voucher can be exchanged upon exit of the game.

It's been ALL Utah, and they finally get one in in the 20th minute.

Then, the Buffs (Kuhlmann with a header off a Beyer corner kick) tie it a little over 1 minute later!

1-1.

Buffs go up 2-1 in the 42nd minute as a Sharts long throw-in gets hit around by a Buff or two before Layne gets it on her foot for a tap in!

2-1 CU is the halftime score.

Highlight of the 1st Buff goal, and one of Hansen's tough saves.

Utes tie it in the 64th minute. Bummer as Hansen was able to stop a penalty kick, and a Buff defender got to the resulting rebound 1st, but unfortunately her attempted clear was successfully deflected into the net by a sliding Ute.

And 2 all is the final.

Special best wishes and thanks to the seniors, and best wishes to the rest of the team over the rest of their semester and year.

BOULDER – Colorado's season-finale on Friday proved to be a microcosm of the Buffaloes' 2022 season, closing the year with a 2-2 draw against Utah at Prentup Field.

The result was CU's fifth draw of the season, as the Buffs finish the year 8-7-5 overall and 2-6-3 in Pac-12 play.

Friday marked the final game for seven of CU's departing seniors. Kayleigh Webb, Civana Kuhlmann, Hannah Cardenas, Allie Palangi, Alyssa Duke, Hannah Sharts and Dani Hansen all got the start to close their careers. For Webb, Friday marked her 98th consecutive start, closing her career as CU's all-time leader in starts and games played.

"I'm so proud," Webb said after the match. "It's not for me. It's the whole team. They are the ones that have pushed me to be able to start and play every single game of my five years. The coaches, the training staff and the strength and conditioning team, they're the ones that push me to get out on the field. It really is everyone, not just one player.

Utah (6-7-6, 2-5-3) struck first, but the Buffs got two first-half goals from Kuhlmann and Emerson Layne to take the lead at the half. Utah forced the draw on a scramble off a penalty save to knot the game up midway through the second half.

"You want to send them [the seniors] out with a win," head coach Danny Sanchez expressed. "We sent them out with a result, but more importantly we sent them out competing. Some will continue to play. Some won't. But I thought that all seven of them really performed. They gave us a chance to win. It was just a little unfortunate on the penalty rebound, but it kind of sums up our season a little bit."

Hansen, making her first start since Oct. 20 against UCLA, finished the day with eight saves on 10 shots on goal. Utah held the advantage in shots on the day, 27-16.

Notes
CU finished the season with the second most points in program history (124)…CU's 42 goals rank tied for the fourth most in program history (2006)…The Buffs handed out 40 assists this season, second to only 2018 (52)…Layne closed the season with 10 points (4 G, 2 A)…Kuhlmann's 12 goals tied for the second-most in a season with Kornieck (2019), Baucom (2018) and Katie Griffin (2005).
