BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's volleyball team heads to Los Angeles this weekend to take on USC Friday at 8 p.m. MT and UCLA Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.

The Buffaloes (10-2, 2-0 Pac-12) are in a three-way tie in the Pac-12 with Washington and Oregon and face a historically tough road weekend that includes a trip to USC where CU has never won.
...

Friday's match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Sunday's match being streamed by UCLA.

USC
The Trojans (9-4, 1-1 Pac-12) are 6-1 at home this season with a lone five-set loss to Washington State last Saturday. USC's four losses have come in a pair of five-set matches to WSU and Hawaii, as well as a four-set loss to No.17 Creighton and a sweep to No.16 Kentucky. USC's strongest wins this season were a pair of four-set victories against Hawaii and UCLA, both on the road.

Southern Cal is hitting .284 this season led by Skylar Fields with 4.47 kills per set hitting .308. The Trojans also have a pair of strong servers in Emilia Weske and Mia Tuaniga who have 17 and 22 aces this season, respectfully. The defense is spread between three players with 30 or more blocks, while the backrow cleanup duties have fallen to Gala Trubint with four digs per set this season.

UCLA
The Bruins (6-5, 0-2 Pac-12) have losses to Utah State, Loyola Marymount and San Diego this season. The team is on a three-match skid starting with the San Diego loss, then a pair of four-set matches to USC and Washington. The strongest win this season was a five-set match at Hawaii.

UCLA is hitting .210 this season with elan McCall and Iman Ndiaye both just eclipsing the 100 kills mark this past weekend. Francesca Alupei leads the front with 1.48 blocks per set this season while Mackenzie Cole has 126 digs, averaging 3.23 digs per set.

It's 8-14 Trojans so far.

Note - I've not been able to watch on the Pac 12 app as I normally do, but am able to see it ok using the Xfinity TV website.

Well- thankfully a team needs to win 3 sets to win a match, as the 1st set is an ugly one, with USC easily winning 15-25. The Buff serve receive was the main issue, with pretty much every Trojan serve leading to either an ace or out of system situation that didn't give CU any chance to get their offense going.

As I often say, momentum often swings all over the place in volleyball; hopefully it does tonight.

Buffs fell behind pretty big a couple times, but came back some (but not enough) each time. USC leads 2-1 after a 19-25 3rd set.

Probably the main thing that ended this set was their setter (who has a nasty looking jump serve) going on a 6 point service run to re-grow the USC lead pretty late, with 4 of those points being on aces. (Per the announcer, she just tied the USC record for aces in a match with 8, with (hopefully) 2 sets still to go.)

TOUGH ending, as the Buffs play better, but can't convert a couple set points at 24-22, and end up losing the match 1-3 after a 26-28 4th set.

Oh well- need to move north a bit and get ready to beat the Bruins on Sunday.

Phew - For the second time in 2 matches, the Buffs can't immediately convert a set winning opportunity when leading 24-22. Thankfully, this time they come back and win in OT 26-24 with a big BLOCK for the set winning point.

Glad this one has gone to 2-0 in sets, as these teams look VERY close to each other in skill and talent. Hope the Buffs can finish it off in set 3 to keep UCLA from gaining any more momentum.

LOS ANGELES — The University of Colorado women's volleyball team put up 20 blocks here Sunday afternoon to defeat UCLA in four sets (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23).

The Buffaloes (11-3, 3-1 Pac-12) dominated the net to keep UCLA (6-7, 0-4 Pac-12) winless in conference play and at home this season.

The defense was shared with six Buffaloes recording three or more blocks. Alexia Kuehl led the team with her second 10-block performance of the season, followed by Meegan Hart with seven blocks, Maya Tabron and Jill Schneggenburger with five and Lexi Hadrych and Taylor Simpson with three.

Tabron provided a huge spark on the offensive side for CU with 17 kills on a .357 hitting percentage. She recorded a double-double with 11 digs and added a pair of aces. Hadrych had 13 kills with a .220 hitting percentage in her return to Pauley Pavilion.

Simpson led the offense with 27 assists while Brynna DeLuzio recorded a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs. Schneggenburger led the backrow with a dozen digs while Katie Lougeay added 10 from the libero position.

UCLA had the upper hand on the offensive end and the backrow, posting 67 kills and 80 digs to CU's 50 and 62. The block was too much to overcome though as UCLA committed 34 attack errors, including 14 that did not come from the block. CU had only 15 attack errors, 12 of which came from UCLA blocks.

The Buffaloes return home next weekend to host No.9 Stanford Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Sunday noon matchup with Cal.
