BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's volleyball team enters a tough final third of the Pac-12 conference season that includes five matches against ranked opponents in the final six matches, starting with a trip to take on No.13 Washington and No. 22 Washington State.

The Buffs (11-13, 3-11 Pac-12) play in the final road trip of the regular season this weekend when they take on Washington (19-5, 10-4 Pac-12) Friday at 8 p.m. MT and Washington State (21-5, 10-4 Pac-12) Sunday at 1 p.m. MT. The team is two matches behind .500 and being postseason eligible and are seeking four more wins to hit the .500 mark or better.
...

Colorado looks to pick up another win on the road then finish the final four matches at home against Cal, Stanford, Oregon and Utah in an eight-day window around Thanksgiving break.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington has just five losses this season, a four-set match at Hawaii, four-set loss at Washington State, four-set loss at USC, four-set loss at Utah and its only home loss in five-sets to USC. They also boast three top-10 wins including a four-set match at Wisconsin (now ranked No.7), a home sweep of the Badgers and a four-set win against former No.1-ranked Stanford (Now No.4).

The Huskies lead the Pac-12 in aces and blocks with 1.5 aces per set and nearly three blocks per set. Maria Bogomolova has 51 aces in conference this season and Kara Bajema is averaging 4.31 kills per set this season with nearly 400 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. The duo of Avie Niece and Lauren Sanders each have more than 100 blocks this season led by Niece's 120.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The Cougars have only five losses this season, a sweep against Iowa, a five-set loss at Cal, a sweep at UCLA, a five-set loss at home against Arizona State and a home sweep against UCLA. They boast the win against Washington at home and haven't faced Stanford yet this season but have two USC wins.

Washington State is second in opponent hitting percentage in the conference at just .191 as well as tied for first in digs per set at 15.45 per set. This team doesn't have a single player averaging more than three kills per set but do have six players averaging more than two kills per set led by Pia Timmer's 2.92. Alexis Dirige is second in the conference with 4.59 digs per set and Magda Jehlarova leads the Pac-12 with 1.54 blocks per set.

Match day- Beat the dawgs!
(Note- everything I see now indicates the below tweet has the CORRECT start time (9:00 PM MT), and the original time taken from the article in the original post (8:00 PM MT) was incorrect, so I fixed the thread title and original post media info.)

Buffs competed HARD in the 1st set against the cougars, but get aced on set point to lose it 23-25. Hopefully they keep up the fight.

One fun thing this stream does is it looks to hook into the ref's feed when they're reviewing challenges. Coach Mahoney used 2 challenges within a few points of each other, and it looks like the Buffs got screwed on a "4 contact" call even after the 1st review. (In the ref's defense, I'm watching on a 50" tv vs. the ref looking at a a small monitor.) Hope the Buffs don't run short on challenges, as they did win the challenge on an out call, but it was obviously in so a challenge shouldn't have been necessary.

It's also close so far (5-4 CU) in the 2nd set.

Yes- in one of those roller coaster of emotion volleyball sets where leads rose and fell, the Buffs get the 2nd in OT 26-24.

The Buffs with a great 3rd set, as they ride a couple big service runs in the early to mid part of the set to get the big lead, and side out great after that to earn the 25-13 win.

Buffs now up 2 sets to 1.

Knew the 4th set was going to be a battle- wsu started slow and the Buffs got an early 4 point lead (5-1); now the wsu defense (block and back row) has upped its game, and they take a 3 point lead leading to a CU timeout down 9-12.

This one is going 5, as the Buffs got blocked off the court in set 4 and lose 15-25. (Be interesting (in a horror film kind of way) to see if this is going to be the worst blocks against set in Buff history, as they were victims of, I believe, 8 in this set.)

Buffs tie it up, then give up a couple (including the last one on miscommunication letting an easy one fall)- it's 7-8.

Buffs use their last timeout down 7-10- predictable set leads to an easy block to give the cougars a 3 point lead.

WSU continues its higher level of play and the Buffs don't can't match in the 5th and lose it 9-15.

Still showing the talent and fight this team has to take the #22 team to 5 sets on the road.

This loss means the Buffs will need to win its last 4 matches, all at home but including, among other tough teams, powerhouse Stanford, to meet the .500 record criteria to even be considered for the NCAA tourney.

Echoes of Cal .

Future is bright.
