Not sure it's a case of them caving. It was never realistic that either team would pay nothing. As is stated in the other thread, $9 mil is a lot less than some of the Mack12 teams were claiming CU and NU would owe. It's basically the value that most people have been claiming from the beginning. I suspect the terms for CU will be about the same.
Where did you see $12.9 million? I saw $9.255 million less $0.5 million if they make a BCS game.
Oops. My bad. you said "Big 12 9 million"
More clear now?
Wasn't it going to be $9 million the whole time?
Nebraska had originally said they wouldn't pay at all and were holding that line until recently.
This is fantastic news for CU!
The Big 12 position had been that with 1 year's notice, Nebraska would have 80% of its 2010 revenues withheld by the conference and have to write a check for 80% of its 2009 revenues.
That was going to be around $16 million.
For CU, the Big 12 position had been that with 2 year's notice, Colorado would have 50% of its 2010 and 2011 revenues withheld by the conference.
That was going to be around $9 million.
Alternately, CU could leave after 1 year and the Big 12 position was that we'd owe about $14.5 million (same as the Nebraska 1-year terms but we're on national tv less and get less from the conference).
Bottom line: There is no way in hell that CU owes the same as Nebraska when we gave 2 years notice and we make less conference money than Nebraska to begin with. We're going to be getting a decent deal, I think.
The way that I always understood it was that knu was supposed to have had 80% of there distribution withheld this year and be responsible for repaying 80% of what they received last year.
What they were disputing was the repayment of last year's distribution.
If I read this correctly, it looks like knu made out like a bandit and beebe got skooled again?
I wonder if CU's deal will allow us to keep $500K if we make it to the CCG?
What a blow to the Nubs riding high after that big win over UW. LOL!
Last year we actually made more conference money than the huskers did.
I don't think so, abs.
This is great news for CU. CU will pay the same amount as Nebraska (trust me on this), and it's a lot better than the $15-20 million that Chip Brown and the Texas idiots were throwing around.
I'm sure CU and NU worked together on this deal. As we saw with the Pac 12 move, CU has been working quietly behind the scenes on this entire move, and I'm sure they've done the same thing with NU. Is it a coincidence that Nebraska acknowledges the amount it will pay to the B12 on the same day CU will announce it's moving to Pac-12 the next year? Methinks not.
I can't find 2009-10.
Nebraska was ahead of us for the 07-08 fiscal year.
We pulled slightly ahead of them for the 08-09 fiscal year.
Has 09-10 been released yet? I'm pretty sure the Big 12 fiscal year starts on July 1, so those numbers should be available.
If they're not, then 08-09 is the most recent and you win abs.
I am pretty sure the most recently released numbers are 2008-2009 I recall when the conference realignment was going on that i was floored we were ahead of them.
Edit: seems like numbers as most often released in the spring based on the by-lines i am seeing in most articles.
I bet the media will potray it as Beebe is a nice guy and let us off the hook for the full amount due to our budget woes.
I think I'll just send the rep and enjoy being wrong. We beat the corn, so it's all good. Nice job by Bohn getting us on tv when we had losing records in both revenue sports during 08-09.
Hows does the douchebag from Orangebloods.com reconcile the $35 - $40 million figure, given Nebraska is only paying $9 mil.
I guess CU owes somewhere between $26 and $31 million now.
CU will pay $31 million.
I heard Woelk on 87.7 about a half hour ago (3:30) say he believes Colorado will end up paying between 7-8 million.
I'm sorry Neil, that amount is greater than the suggested retail price of $6.8 million. I'm afraid you're not our big winner today....
Excerpt from the Big 12 Buyout Price is Right.
Bob Barker (after loud buzz) "I'm sorry, Chip, DeLoss, Don, and Neill but you've all over bid. We're going to clear your bids and start over again at a price lower than Neill's $7M."
And don't forget to spay and neuter your conference!!!
How fitting would this be?
I bid $5 million in another thread. Does this mean I'm the closest without going over?
Has there been any discussion in scheduling NU for OOC games? Surely beats playing CSU losers.
There has been some talk, but Nebraska doesn't have room on their schedule for many years into the future for a home and home series. However there is is an open date on Nebraska's schedule for 2011. The payout might be in the neighborhood of $375,000 or so. Which is the same as what South Dakota State University is going to make this weekend to be the next sacrificial lamb. Have your AD call Dr. Tom and get it set up.
The next chance for a meeting between the two schools in football will have to be in the Rose Bowl.
Good Luck in the 12-Pac!
