BOULDER - University of Colorado assistant lacrosse coach Hannah Nielsen will once again represent her country as a member of the Australian National Team at the 2013 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Oshowa, Canada. "To me, there is no bigger honor out there than representing your country, and I am so excited to have another chance to wear the green and gold and to represent Australia," Nielsen said. "I am excited and grateful for another opportunity to play with and against the best players in the world, on the biggest stage for our sport." The Adelaide, Australia native was a member of the 2005 World Champion and 2009 runner-up teams. In 2005, she scored a key goal to push Australia over the United States in the Gold Medal game. In 2009, she led the team with 12 goals and 13 assists as the Aussies fell by a single goal to the U.S. in the title game. That year Nielsen was also named to the All-World team. Australia has been a medalist in all eight previous tournaments since the World Cup began in 1982. The team has won gold medals in 1986 and 2005 and earned four silver (1982, 1997, 2001 and 2009) and two bronze (1989 and 1993) medals. Pool play begins on July 11 at the Civic Recreation Center. A champion will be crowned on July 20. |
