Official ****braska Hate Thread

As 2025 is arriving this week and I see talk of teams having to reduce their roster sizes to 105, I have to wonder how big of a hit Nebraska would get from cutting down from 150 players. Going to be interesting to see where those cut players go.

They don't go anywhere. These are called team managers in other programs.
Nubs will have no players beyond the 105 who they have to cut, that had any chance of seeing the field ever. But allowing them to wear the uniform creates excitement all the way across the state, as every town has a kid on the team etc.
You don't need more than 105 kids to help put the sleds in/out before/after practice.

You need about 65 players plus a few for good measure and another 20-30 on the developmental squad.
Beyond that, it becomes a cluster-fvck

Seems like players continue to help the program with their downsizing.

Such a whiny little bitch lol

The first two paragraphs perfectly encapsulates the idea, "Scared money, don't make money. "

The Nebraska spring game, one of the best-attended in college football and a major revenue producer, likely won’t be held going forward because of coach Matt Rhule’s concern about other teams poaching his players.

“The word ‘tampering’ doesn’t exist anymore,” Rhule said Saturday at his midwinter news conference. “It’s just an absolute free open common market. I don’t necessarily want to open up to the outside world and have people watch our guys and say, ‘He looks like a pretty good player. Let’s go get him.’”

He's going to forego a ton of revenue, a crucial event for internal scouting, and a key way to maintain fan engagement all because he's afraid of losing a few guys.

I don't see any upside here, and I love that for him and the Nubs.

All but the homegrown players are available, without requiring a step up in compensation. "Just get me the F out of here"

What he sees is bunch of his best players seeing a) what a giant cluster the program is, b) that they aren't nearly as good as they were promised they would be in recruiting, and c) that the best time to get out is now.

Can also see recruits going to kNU and going other places and realizing that all of the above also apply to them.

After a couple of decades of futility more of them are finally starting to realize (despite finally getting a bowl game this year) that Nebraska football isn't what they think Nebraska football is and isn't going to be that again.

Back in the day, at hornfans.com they would jokingly refer to Mack Brown as "Mr. Football".

I think Matt Ruhle has stepped into that derisive moniker.
