Official CU-Beavers thread

There were a few times this year where enough of the players came through and the Buffs were formidable. Tonight wasn't one of those games. Picked 10th in the PAC and probably seeded 6th now, we have over-achieved. Disappointing still, but we won't suck so bad in the future. Some NIT games will help. The future is brighter. Hang on.

I was thinking this morning after watching the last four games, if we had had Levi Knutson for one more year we might have won the PAC. Levi was far from the most talented player we have seen come through Boulder but he did two things that would make all the difference in the world to this team (three if you want to count shooting free throws.)

On the offensive end he could light it up from outside. The teams that have been beating us have been packing it in and daring us to try to force the ball inside. Look at the number of our shots that have been blocked recently and the number of shots we have missed from close range because there is always a help defender there looking to block the shot. With a Levi out there draining some threes the whole defense loosens up making room for our slashers to get to the bucket clean.

The other thing that Levi didn't get a lot of credit for but should have was that he was a very good perimiter defender. He wasn't tremendously quick but he anticipated the shooter and got to the spot ahead of him frequently throwing them off their game. He was also physical enough to fight over the top of screens and long enough to get a hand out in front of the shooters.

Spread the offensive set out and turn some of these hot three point shots into misses and the Buffs have a different season. Question is now who might provide that for us in the future. It seems like Tad is recruiting a lot of guys who can slash to the hoop and we have some big guys coming in who should improve our inside scoring and defense but who will provide that game outside the arc?

Buffs play at 9:30 pm on Wednesday. They win, they play 9:30 on Thursday. Win again? 9:30 on Friday. The final will be at 3:00 on Saturday on CBS.
