Official Oregon State Prediction Thread

The lack of a pass rush in the first two games was partly by design and was to make the QB beat us through the air and not on the ground, which worked well for us. However, you cannot discount the fact that we couldn't get more than 1 sack against a FCS team and have very few sacks despite playing two weak teams. It helps that Mannion isn't a mobile QB by any stretch of the imagination and the coaching staff has had two weeks to implement new blitzes so hopefully we can get some pressure on him.

I also think you're overrating OSU by a good margin. This isn't the 2012 OSU with a tough D, they're not a very good team this year, and neither are we but we are a healthy team and OSU is not (their OL is very injured along with their RB who is used for screens a lot). OSU could very easily be 1-3 right now.

I think your overrating cu after wins against csu and cent. ark. You are correct, their defense isn't good, we'll see how good cu's is in 3 days.

Eastern Washington: 84
Hawaii: 133
Utah: 42
SDSU: 94
CU: 88

CSU: 101
CAU: 110

SDSU took OSU down to the wire, EWU beat them, and the Utah game was a very good game. OSU is not a consistent team, and that steams from their defense. Add in the fact that they have a lot of injuries and this is a very winnable game.

38-37 buffs. Fg to win it at the end. We start off slow but the 4th quarter remains our friend.

Go Buffs!!

"Only four"

You gotta be joking... right?
Yes only four. Central Arkansas lined up usually with one TE, sometimes two TE's when they would get within our 35 yard line (roughly). Here is a breakdown of the amount of players brought (I have a word doc with a play-by-play breakdown if you really want it):

Total Plays: 87
Number of Series: 15
Average # of Plays/Series: 5.8

Three players or less: 1 (1.14%)
Four players brought: 57 (65.52%)
Five players brought: 13 (14.94%)
Six players brought: 11 (12.64%)
Seven players brought: 0 (0%)
Eight players or more brought: 3 (3.45%)

When you're blitzing four players nearly 2/3rds of the time against 5 or 6 man fronts it's going to be hard to get consistent pressure on the QB unless you have a very good DL. The coaches clearly put a premium in keeping the CAU QB in the pocket and not letting him extend plays on the ground. The coaches sacrificed a consistent pass rush by bringing more players in on a blitz in favor of keeping a mobile QB in the pocket.

Some other observations...
-To keep the QB contained inside we brought most of the pressure on the outside, usually with Webb or Orms
-We only blitzed more than six players when they were inside of our 10 yard line (obviously)
-Very vanilla DL pressure, not a lot of twists and stunts

The so-called rodents have beaten USC like a drum in Corvallis for many years. Reality check time. We are in the Pac-12 now, not playing Kansas who cares. We have joined a conference that have been playing each other for over 100 years. Get smarter!

2006= U$C commits four turnovers
2008= Jaquizz Rogers goes for 186 yds.
2010= Jaquizz goes for another 126 yds and Barkley sprains an ankle and is out for the 2nd half

2013= No Jaquizz, no running game at all (10 yds vs a bad SDSU?); 4 OL out; bad "D"; lose to EWU and SDSU gave the game away to the beavs....
....Sorry, Wally, these beavs aint the U$C giant killers of the past anymore than the Buffs are the OU/UT/kNU giant killers of the '90s.

Don't care if they played U$C for a 100 years, ghosts don't play worth a damn!

and those ghosts don't include your family that are dead? Oh, I forgot you don't care about Ghosts.

You didn't know grayson was vick-like?

We're a month beyond Grayson (who did a nice job vs. that vaunted "all-we-need-to-beat-CSEwe-is-to-show-up" 'Bama defense) and are now on Mannion, whose stature is much more statue-like!

Gee! For a DL whizzbang, Syko, you give little credit to what Jeffcoat might cook up with his newly "svelte" (that's "thinner" for you groundpounders)
crew upfront.

All you're saying Tini is we can't play teams straight up and get pressure on the QB... and you somehow view that as a positive.

Tini is so full of kool-aid at this point, that it is coming out of his ears and he could somehow spin our current talent level (or lack of) into an overarching plan by Colorado to lull our opponents to sleep before beating them.

For all those expecting OSU's QB and WR to shred our secondary, I have a question. With our tandem of Wood and Richardson, wouldn't our defense be as prepared for this game as any other this season? We have the bonus to practice against a much more mobile QB than Mannion. I don't think the D will see anything from OSU that they don't see in practice everday. Also something that plays into our hands is OSU's tempo. We practice at a quick pace, and CARK was an uptempo offense. I think the D performs much better than expected due to how we practice, and who we were practicing against.

We're not going to play teams straight up and get consistent pressure, yes. It's a numbers game. It was a "positive" the last two games with mobile QBs, but against QBs like Mannion we will need to get pressure. If we can't get pressure on a weekly basis then I'll be concerned, but at this point it seemed like a conservative gameplan that made QBs beat us through the air.

Define "straight up". If you mean mano a mano, without any twists, stunts or funky rush patterns or blitzs, you are correct for the first two DL efforts this year; one against a veteran CSEwe OL and the other against a veteran, yet lesser CArk crew against whom the DL was playing "contain the QB"

We'll see this week if the straight up methods continue or whether ther are some new elements introduced against a banged-up OSU bunch that could start two freshmen and only two experienced OL.. My money is on Jeffcoat playing some new schemes, with four weeks of film and two weeks of prep.

Pretty sure I counted 2 times where we did a stunt or twist or anything other than a straight up rush by the way

I think you beat the Beavers by a narrow margin. BTW is it not possible to have an avatar on this site without paying for a subscription?

You need to pay, but it's only $15 per year, and you gain access to some other forums that are, umm, more "interesting".
