Took awhile but I got my g-sync monitor sold, now on my really old samsung and it looks like ****.

This will be here on Saturday

Oh the joys of being single with no kids. I think I might not have room for my second monitor that I use for PS4. Maybe I will finally move the PS4 back the living room.

I did it. Just picked up my new build:
    • i9-9900k processor with water cooler
    • RTX 2070 video card
    • Asus Maximus Hero XI Motherboard
    • 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
    • 1 TB M2 Intel 970 Pro Boot Drive
    • 10 TB Seagate Iron Wolf Data Drive
    • Corsair 850 Watt Power Supply
What sucks is, I won't even plug it in until Sunday. Wife's birthday, kid's ski lessons, etc.

The guy at the shop thanked me for letting him build it. He said he load tested it overclocked at 38% without issue, but dropped it back to stock because "who would need that? It already screams." Yeah, I'm probably gonna juice it back up a bit.

If this leak is true AMD is going to kick Intel in the nuts again in early 2019. Wonder if I will need a new motherboard for the 3850x

I fight hard every year to resist the urge to build a new gaming PC. With those types of numbers, I might finally just do it with the Ryzen 3000 series.

Going to be curious about the 3300G and 3600G graphics performance. Would love to know the number of stream cores.

    https://www.techradar.com/news/amd-ryzen-3000-next-generation-16-core-processors-leaked

3300G would have 15 compute GPU cores which gives it 960 stream cores while the 3600G will have 20 compute GPU cores which gives it 1,280 stream cores which puts it in the neighborhood of the XB1 and PS4 GPUs which have 768 and 1,152 stream cores.

The 3600G could be a great budget build if you want current XB1 & PS4 ish performance and then upgrade with the proper PS5/Scarlet level GPU.

Couple of things on the new PC:

    1) I immediately went in to the "smart" overclocking that manages how much it is juicing the CPU based on thermals. It says 38% is the goal, but it is consistently running at 30%/4.7GHz. without any issues (y)

    2) Buying a brand new computer and then hooking it up to your old monitor and keyboard is a bit of a let down. I received a $150 amazon gift card from my folks for Xmas. It got me thinking, so I went digging around. I found other gift cards from them from my BDay, our anniversary, and Xmas last year for another $150 total that I never cashed!

I just ordered a 32 inch LG 4k monitor for $400. Technically not a gaming monitor, but that's fine - I'm sure I will never know the difference. Benchmarks of the latest games (none of which I own) against my RTX 2070, show this monitor will push better than averaging 50+ fps in 4k pretty much across the board.

Buying a 32 inch 4k monitor for $100 out of pocket was a great way to wrap up Xmas, even if it doesn't arrive until around Jan 3rd :D

We will have to make sure the local meth heads are keeping an eye out for the UPS truck.
I could use that for 50 bucks.

Can't wait for CES. I'm more interested in what AMD's new Ryzen CPUs (especially the APUs) are capable of and whether they will get announced. Intel should provide some answers to their new discrete GPUs. Nvidia might unveil the RTX 2060.

    https://www.techspot.com/news/78044-rtx-2060-vs-gtx-1160-ten-new-leaks.html

Nvidia to unveil the GTX 1160? I'm curious about that since I'm not sure how long it will be before ray tracing finds its way to fighting games which is now my main genre.

Watching AMD keynote. Radeon 7 GPU announced. Claiming it is as fast as GTX 2080. 7nm tech. 16 GB memory.

    Edit: Price $699

That Radeon VII has 3,840 stream cores and 1 TB/s memory bandwidth. Definitely next gen gpu based on the specs. Memory bandwidth is maybe three times the XBox One X.

About time Nvidia got punched in the face.

They didn't talk about Ryzen much. I have a feeling they will go big on that during Computex

No one is buying Nvidia's overpriced RTX cards? I am not shocked.

HardOCP tested the performance hit with ray tracing turned on in battlefield 5

As we mentioned above, the game is playable with DX12 enabled as long as DXR is disabled. However, once you turn on "Low" DXR prepare to be highly disappointed in the performance. The game becomes instantly unplayable. The drop-in performance is 26%. Averaging just 47FPS the game is not playable. It only gets worse from there, dropping all the way to 36FPS average at "Ultra" DXR. It is very clear that the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti OC is no where near fast enough to provide playable performance with DXR enabled even at the lowest setting possible.

From the fastest performance at DX11 NO DXR at 76.3 FPS to DX12 ULTRA DXR at 36.5 FPS the drop-in performance in total is 52%. No level of DXR is playable at 4K in BFV. with the RTX 2080 Ti. Even just DX12 with no DXR is on the border since the minimum FPS drops below 60FPS.

No surprise developers are still figuring out how to optimize performance with Ray Tracing as a new technology. Nvidia will also continue to optimize the drivers.

I only bought the RTX 2070 because
    • non ray tracing benchmarks were equivalent to the 1080ti
    • pricing for the 1080ti and 2070 were roughly equivalent
    • getting the RTX means if I don't upgrade video cards in the next several years, at least I have ray tracing capability
Now, why anyone would spring extra for the RTX 2080 today, I couldn't tell you! (y)

RTX 2060 has similar TFLOP performance to the XBox One X and costs $150.00 less as well. Not bad but I want to see Nvidia’s new GPU that is on par with the GTX 1060. Will it be the xx50 GPU or not? That will tell me if next gen gaming is here or not since a good quad core CPU along with a GPU at the level of the GTX 1060 would be the minimum PC requirement to run those next gen games along with let’s say 16GB RAM. That should buy 3-5 more years for my intel Haswell PC until it’s time for a new build. That means up to 10 years of service for that PC...not too bad when you split the cost of components over those ten years.

I’d also love to know if AMD will cut the prices on the RX 580 & 590 soon.

Update 1: Just watched RTX 2060 vs GTX 1080 comparisons...the 2060 does well against the 1080. Also 2060’s starting price is $200 less. I’d buy the 2060 instead of a XB1X at this point. Even the GTX 2070 is appealing at $500.00.

Those 7nm Nvidia GPUs could be epic.

    PC gaming FTL

Uninstalling Battlefield 5 today. Hacking is out of control in this game. Makes me sad because I was having a blast in this one.

First video I recorded last night, second video first game I tried today.

That sucks Matt. If I was really into online multiplayer games, I don't think I would be quite as pro-PC as I am since I'm pretty much a single play type of gamer.

Just built a new Ryzen 5 1600 for pretty cheap. Went with the b450 so I can upgrade to a 3000 when the time is right. The upgrade from sandy bridge has been dramatic for gaming

OK- I'm thinking about getting back into casual PC 'builder' type gaming. Back in the day I really enjoyed SimCity, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Rail Road Tycoon2.
I have been looking online and from what I can tell for city building 'Cities Skyline' seems like the King while 'Planet Coaster' is the best theme park builder. Am I right?
How about for railroad builders? 'Railway Empire', 'Transport Fever' and 'Trainz -A New Era' all look interesting.
Anything else in the builder genre worth a look? 'Jurassic World - Evolution' might be fun.
