Pelini

What has he done that makes him so classless? He's intense, but I've seen nothing to make me think he's about to step over some line.

By the way, Devaney was a dick from everything I've read. A drunken man who spent more time getting plastered and hitting on college girls than watching film.
So?

I disagree. I was not a former CU football player. I am a longtime devoted fan of CU. I am an enthusiastic fan. That enthusiasm is a direct result of the total CU experience. The degree set me on my way, exposing me to ideas and concepts that I use in the workplace. Without a CU degree, I wouldn't be in the same position of living the American Dream; wife, kiddo, a mortgage, a career that adds value to my existance and supports my CU habit.

I am indebited to CU for the lifestyle it provides. Football is one part of that equation, but it's not the the only factor, nor is it the primary factor. The bigger picture includes those ski trips to Eldora and Summit County. The City of Boulder offers the Kinetic Sculpture and Bolder Boulder races. Although Mall Crawl on Pearl no longer exists, it was part of the broader college experience, too. On campus, my time on the cross country and track cemented my bond with the CUAD. Football funds that program, so when I spend money on CU football, win, lose, or draw, a portion of those proceeds funds the development of some of the best middle and long runners in the country. The running community and access to miles of trails in Boulder is top notch, and thanks to CU, I was able to partake.

And yes, the FAC and the party scene on campus and on the Hill cemented quite a few friendships.

If all that is pathetic, then Lammie, I don't know what to tell you.

I recognize there are die hard football fans that live of die by the win-loss record. There are those who go so far to tie their self-esteem to the success of the football program. There are those who live vicariously through the achievements of the players. And to each, their own.

Speaking personally, I couldn't care less if Nebraska fans like to pigeonhole the football discussion in terms of "scoreboard". Not a one of them were so blessed to experience what I did while attending CU.

Even if CU never wins an other mNC, they did win one during my magical stay in Boulder and no Husker can take that away.

And when it comes to football, Nebraska is better off than CU at the moment. But Nebraska is no Alabama. And Nebraska has a long way to go to dislodge the powers from the B12 south. If ya'll want to act superior on a CU fanboard, that's pathetic. You have a long way to go before being the biggest big red in the land. This Pelini drama just goes to show how delicate Nebraska's attempt at returning to relevence really is. Both Pelini brothers are hot heads (Think Leach and Mangino.) Both are time bombs. Tick. Tock.

Oh yes, the old validation bit. Very moving.

It really is OK to acknowledge Bo is doing a good job. It's only football. We're not trying to erase your wonderful memories....conversely, we can't do much about your recent memories either.

Bo is doing an OK job. He is TO's lap dog. He keeps Shawn Watson around and NU struggles offensively. Those struggles deliver wins against CU. That puts NU in great company with the likes of Toledo and Montana State. Congrats.

Let's take CU out of this for a moment. BP has losses against UT, VT, OU, ISU....He hasn't taken Nebraska over the hump with victories over top 20 teams yet.

Bo Pelini is intense, not that there is anything wrong with that. I've seen similar intensity with Leach, Mangino, Ron Prince, or even Bobbie Knight and Josh McDaniels. Pelini is a hot head. He goes after refs pretty hard. When the team is digging itself out of the Callahan era, fans can live with the temper. Over time, that tendency typically comes back to bite you in the butt.

Since you've only mentioned intense coaches who have been unsuccessful or extremely controversial, I'll list some other successful intense coaches.

You guys that are dissin Bo for being at NU would be the first ones to welcome him to cu if he became available. And what a great coach he will be in boulder and blah, blah, blah. You don't know how many buff fans I've heard say that they wanted to go after Bo Pelini when he was at LSU instead of Dan Hawkins. But I guess he was to much of a hot head or too intense or whatever for the likes of cu at boulder.

i like the Pelini hire for NU he is a great fit there, but he simply wouldn't work in boulder. For the fan-base to put up with his antics and intensity they need to be equally intense. CU Fans just aren't. He'd get run out of boulder Mangino style in 2 seasons.

That intensity shortened the coaching careers for Gruden, Cowher and now Meyer. What are they doing now?

Aside from that, it's interesting that these three were selected. Come back after Pelini wins something more meaningful than a B12 North title...like maybe a Superbowl or mNC.

A further note on Zen. It's great when Phil Jackson can pull it off with the Lakers and Bulls. Dan Hawkins is about as far from Phil Jackson's level of success as Pelini is from those guys you posted. Nebraska wishes they could land any one of those FB coaches.

We tried to go after Meyer( Utah at the time). The story goes that he told Steve Pederson ( NU's AD ) that he didn't think he wanted to go to a school that fired their coach after a 9 win season. Hence we end up with Bill Callahan and we all know how well that went. Not sure about Cowher but I think Gruden could be a successful college coach. After our experience with BC I am not a big advocate of pro coaches going college.
