BOULDER - University of Colorado assistant volleyball coach Kristee Porter has decided to return to her home state of Texas to pursue an opportunity for her family, CU head coach Liz Kritza announced on Thursday. "Kristee will be greatly missed, but we are excited for her as she moves into the next phase of her life," Kritza said. "Kristee played a crucial role this year helping to develop key players to compete at the top level of collegiate volleyball. We wish her and her family all the best in their exciting new endeavors." Porter worked for one season with the Buffs, focusing primarily with the outside hitters. She helped to successfully transition freshman Alexis Austin from a middle blocker to the outside. Austin earned honorable mention honors on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and led the Buffs with 364 kills. Austin was named CU's Most Improved Player for the successful transition and earned CU Athlete of the Week honors four times during the season. Porter helped to guide the Buffs to a 14-18 overall record (4-16 in the Pac-12 Conference). CU recorded eight more overall wins on the year than in 2011 when the Buffs recorded six wins. The Buffs finished the non-conference portion of the season at 10-2, one of the best starts ever in CU history. The Buffs also picked up three more victories in conference play compared to one in the first year of Pac-12 play. A national search for Porter's replacement is underway.
