my official take is "show me". i've taken the kool aide pretty much every summer to some degree despite my rational mind being skeptical from Day 1 (Montana State).....there are some reasons for hope but i'm taking a wait and see attitude.

we need to beat CSU by 2 scores for me to rally completely. anything less than a 2-2 start and we are doomed. maybe squeeze 3-2 out of the first 5 heading into the BU/TT homestand and we are looking good.

I echo RedDirt's comments - I ALWAYS get pumped for the START of the season. Just hoping I can carry that enthusiasm past the CSU game this year unlike last year.

That's exactly how I feel. As much as I dislike Hawk I'm starting to believe that this team can put together a decent season because the maturity and experience is there for it to happen. I've been watching a few minutes of College Football Live each morning and I'm getting excited for college football, period!

I don't really expect great things from the buffs, but that doesn't matter. I'm very excited.

I'm psyched, I find optimism more fun that pessimism, and I'm glad we'll be able to talk about actually games soon.

Also, Cal was picked 7th in the Pac this year and Georgia is not the Georgia of old especially this far from home. We need to pick up a win in at least one of those games IMO (plus big wins v CSU and Hawaii of course).

Couldn't be more excited for the Buffs to get going! I live and die Buffs, haven't missed a game in 10 seasons and only missed a handful of road games while in school (I sure won't miss road-tripping the Big XII). I spend way too much time reading ever single news article, blog, and press release pertaining to the Black & Gold at great costs to my productivity at work. Not to mention my perusing of allbuffs in it's entirety, this including all nonsensical posts, anti-hawkins rants, talks of mythical unicorns, completely off-base insider information, powder blue protests, sand in the vagina whining about anything and everything, and way too many references to "awesome" "lunch pails" "juiceboxes" "little things" "gonna pop" "zen" "burnt to the ground" from both our coach and allbuffers. I endured all of this, and usually enjoy it, in the name of my beloved Buffs! I've been counting the hours and minutes for months now, 5:30 can't come soon enough fore with it come a new beginning! And please spare us all the hawkins bitching. We all know he shat the bed, but with a new season comes new un-shatted sheets. We have a talented team and maybe just maybe this is the year we get back on track. Mac didn't turn the corner until his 5 season, maybe Hawk does the same with a little help from the Football Gods and we head to the 12 PAC with the last Big XII Championship in our back pocket after smacking Texas in the mouth for their holier than thou attitudes! This site as a whole has slowly but surely become overwhelmingly negative, and today at 5:30 we have the perfect opportunity to rectify that problem. All of us here are the DIE-HARD Buff fans, we set the tone for the rest of the CU Faithful. If a bunch of us are walking around like a bunch of negative naceys, it's going to make for another sad season for the Buffalo Nation. Now let's get those chins up and get ready for the season, I love you all. GO BUFFS!!!!

Love the rant, but this is incorrect. He had a winning/bowl season in year 4.

Mac had a much bigger hole to climb out of, too. Talk about "burned to the ground". This program was on life support when Mac showed up.

i'm not a fan of it. there's no necessary causal connection between the two. i mean Coach Mac never beat the #3 team in the country in Year 2 like Hawk did, did he? so, he must stink.

This I know, but I think the tipping point was the win over kNU in season 5. The winning season and bowl were overshadowed by the 0-4 start the next year, then the corner turning occurred in the last 2/3rds of the season.

Yup, a "minor" fact that often gets left out whenever Hawk is compared to Mac.

The comparison can only be made once Hawkins has either turned it around or is gone. To compare them now is pointless except for the fact that we all HOPE that history can repeat itself. I HOPE hawk can prove most of us wrong, but I ain't seeing it.
