Just noticed I've been VERY lazy and hadn't set up this (usual annual) thread for 2025 yet, so did want to do so now.

As noted in the thread title, at least for the ELITE few #ForeverBuffs, the main dates this year are centered around this being a World Championship year, with this year's scheduled to be in Tokyo in mid-September. The bulk of the U.S. team will be determined at the U.S. Championships, scheduled to be held (as usual) in Eugene from 9/13-21.

A few links I can already find related to the Championships:

U.S. Championships:

U.S. Track and field (USATF) Championships homepage - https://www.usatf.org/events/2025/2025-toyota-usatf-outdoor-championships

Schedule of events (not sure if final or not) - https://www.usatf.org/events/2025/2025-toyota-usatf-outdoor-championships/schedule

Entry and other Schedule dates for athletes (when they could/ can earn qualifying times or marks, when they can apply to enter the Championships, etc.) - https://www.usatf.org/events/2025/2025-toyota-usatf-outdoor-championships/qualifying-information

World Championships standards - In addition to a top 3 finish, athletes also need to have attained the necessary standard for their event to insure*** that they can be selected for the World Championships. For this year's World's, the standards can be found at https://assets.aws.worldathletics.org/document/66aa789d5e6a655f85e64212.pdf . (***Note that even if an athlete doesn't meet the standard, they may also qualify if their world ranking is high enough. What I don't know is how the USATF decides to use the World's rules, as I seem to remember that if an athlete finished top 3 in the past but didn't have the standard by the time they needed to declare the U.S. team, the USATF did end up choosing a lower finisher or 2 at the U.S. Championships who DID have the world standard. Note that even after the U.S.'s there is some time for top 3 finishers to "chase" the standard, and do remember after last year's at least an athlete or 2 raced to find another race to compete at to earn a qualifying time as they hadn't attained it before or at the U.S.'s themselves.)

Video - Per https://www.usatf.org/events/event-resource-pages/television-webcast-schedule , looks like they are scheduling to telecast on NBC and steam on Peacock (for those with a subscription) Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM MT. In addition, there may be coverage at https://www.usatf.tv/ for those who have a premium subscription for that outlet. (The link is down as I type this, so can't see any details on what is scheduled to be shown there.)

World Championships:
(Will start looking for links later.)

The reason I wanted to start this thread now is I noticed a few notable things happening for a few #ForeverBuffs over the last few days:
  • At yesterday's Bolder Boulder, a few #ForeverBuffs had nice finishes in the pro races, led by Makena Morley finishing 5th in the women's race and Joe Klecker 6th in the men's. In addition, Sara Vaughn won the women's citizen's race. (A couple articles on the Bolder Boulder noting the Buff pro race finishes can be found at https://www.dailycamera.com/2025/05...na-sets-course-record-to-win-womens-pro-race/ and https://www.dailycamera.com/2025/05...-mens-pro-race-history-with-fantastic-finish/ .)
  • At a track meet held this past Saturday in Southern California, #ForeverBuff Eduardo (Lalo) Herrera broke his own Mexican national record in the 5000M with a time that qualifies*** him for this year's World Championships. (***It's a qualifying time, but I have no idea how the Mexican Track Federation chooses its athletes. Since it is a national record, I'd ASSUME the odds are good that he will be selected to the team that will be in Tokyo in September. The below post does indicate that, if he's named, it will be his 1st World Championship.)
  • I believe at the same meet, Sage Hurta-Klecker won the women's 800M race at a very solid 1:59.02. (She just missed the 1:59.00 world standard, but with the talent in the U.S. in that event assume she will probably have to run quicker than that just to earn a top 3 finish anyways if Tokyo is one of her goals this season.)

Bumping this thread since the U.S. Championships began earlier today.
(As indicated by the times listed in the below quoted article, a couple of events containing Buffs have already occured. In the 1st round of the women's 800M, Sage Hurta-Klecker easily qualified for tomorrow's semi-finals (scheduled to begin at 5:01 PM MT) by running the fastest qualifying time of any heat. In the women's javelin finals, Jada Green finished 7th.)

Edit - re live video coverage:
  • Today's and Friday's action is only available for those who have a usatf.tv premium subscription. (For those who do have that, the link is https://usatf.tv/home.
  • Saturday's and Sunday's events are slotted to be on NBC, with Peacock subscriber also being granted access to the coverage,. Both day's coverage are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM MT.

HUGE congrats to Sage Hurta-Klecker, who after some tough luck in prior U.S. Championships has just qualified for her 1st World Outdoor Championships with a 3rd place finish in today's women's 800M!
(Although there were some other very nice top 10 finishes by #ForeverBuffs, believe she will be the only one representing CU in Tokyo this September.)

I love this for Sage. After all of her disappointments, Sage finally gets to compete at the Worlds.
