PWO Targets

Won the kickoff competition at the 2016 Chris Sailer Spring Camp Tour event in Dallas, TX. http://chrissailerkicking.com/chris-sailer-kicking-blog/tag/davis-price/

Kickoff Champion: Davis Price (2016, CO)
Another long time Chris Sailer Kicking student was dominant on kickoffs all day. He won the competition by hitting a 76 yard, 4.08 hang time kickoff. He has really come into his own and is ready to move on to the college level. He has the talent to compete at any level.

Also was Sailer's #67 ranked Kicker for 2016. http://chrissailerkicking.com/player-rankings/profile.php?player=4762

Player Review
Davis is an excellent high school kicking prospect. He has a big time leg and shows flashes of dominance on both field goal and kickoff. He has shown outstanding improvement over the years. He has 55+yard range on field goals off the ground. Kickoffs are a strength. He recently hit a 74 yard, 4.06 kickoff (2-16). He has big time potential. He has a great attitude and work ethic. Davis is going to make a fine addition to any future college football program.

Love the addition as a PWO. Appears to be a quality kicker, and CU gets him for "free". Hope he beats out Diego and Graham and earns a scholly.

My guess is that he will at least win kickoff duties next year (2017) while Graham is the PK. Then we've got our transition into our scholarship PK for 2018 & 2019 (2020 also, if he redshirts).

How the **** has CU gone a decade without even a mediocre kicker and why are still wasting 3 scholarships on kicking specialists? This is one of the more frustrating aspects of this program.

If this is correct, Diego sits on the bench as a backup kicker on scholarship?????

SR PK Diego
JR K Chris Graham
SO P Alex Kinney
FR PWO K Davis Price

I would argue that Kinney is definitely not a "wasted" scholarship. The kid got very good as last year went on. Diego and Chris need to figure out how to kick a damn field goal. Need to be like 85% or greater from inside the 40, no matter what hash.

Also 'Nik I believe is projecting this years kicking to be like last year.

PK Diego
KO Graham
P Kinney

Unless something changes over the summer.

PWO = preferred walk on

He's an invited walk-on for fall camp, making him one of the 105 players who will arrive in August for the practices that happen before classes start. Not a scholarship player.

We still have 3 scholarship kicking specialists.

P.S. Kinney is far from a wasted scholarship at P. I'm expecting him to be at least Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 this year.

Gotcha, I missed the 2017 note from buffnik. I don't necessarily believe all 3 are wasted, as most teams are going to have their punter and kicker on scholarship, but we are wasting one for a "kickoff specialist" that can't kick it out of the endzone, and we use 2 different PKs for long vs short attempts and neither is very good at that. Just a giant cluster****.

And I'd also expect JT Bale to be put on scholarship as our LS. https://colorado.n.rivals.com/news/notes-the-train-firmly-on-track

“[J.T. Bale] has had an excellent spring long snapping, so has Chris Hill," MacIntyre said. "[In the spring game] we'll get them out there in front of some fans and put them in some situations. We'll see how they handle that. I really have been pleased with JT Bale's snaps.”

I was referring to Diego, Graham and Kinney. Like you said, I don't believe AK is a wasted scholarship, but there's no reason to be using 3 scholarships on the kicking game, unless you have a guy that can kick it through the endzone every time and a PK that is automatic from inside 40. We have neither.

Good. Consistent snaps are crucial, need to lock down players that can do that.

I agree with you. Last year, there was an open scholarship and Graham was awarded it pre-camp. I thought it would be a year-to-year and will be surprised if he's still on scholarship this fall. I'd much rather see it used to add depth to a position group with a late signing of a JUCO or grad transfer somewhere.

I guess so. Quoting Maximus from the Rivals board:

His father is Kyle Smith, who was a 6'6, 290 pound OT/DT out of Torrington, Wyoming who lettered for the Buffs in 1994-95-96.

Well that makes sense with the Rivals profile listing Wyoming as a school of interest. Welcome, Kolter!

Is Jacob Stoltenberg related to Bryan Stoltenberg? Bryan went Clements HS in TX, and so did Jacob, seems probable....
