Question on Turner Gill Coaching Contract

From ESPN:

Turner Gill's five-year contract as head football coach at Kansas will pay him $2 million a year, including $1.7 million for television, radio and other media responsibilities.

The school said Thursday that Gill's annual base salary is $229,900 but has several performance bonuses available.

Does this mean if Gill were fired prior to year 5, then he would only be owed his base salary x # of years remaining?

If so, we need someone else doing our contracts.

I doubt it's written that way. I recently looked up Les Miles' contract and his was around $500k base with a ton of money coming from media (plus bonus opportunities written in). But his payout if they fired him was for much more than base. It was pretty close to the total value of the contract.

It's more likely that the low base is a way to appease the university and the politicos at a state university and that boosters are picking up the rest.

Dan's salary/contract are structured the exact same way as Gill's.

.

Since both HC's essentially have the same contract, just for fun, let's say that Gill ends up with the same record as Hawkins did in his 1st three years as a HC. Then the natives grow restless like we have and demand he be fired. Do you think they would fire him? or treat it the same way that the Hawkins situation has been handled and give him another year to turn things around?

They dont have "essentially" the same contract Gill gets paid near 2x what Hawkins does.
