A fan favorite retires after multiple concussions, but not without one last touchdown
Charlie Offerdahl is officially stepping away from football, medically retiring after multiple concussions. Offerdahl confirmed the news earlier this week alongside head coach Deion Sanders, who called the senior running back one of the smartest players he’s ever coached.
That’s not just coach talk either — Offerdahl was studying molecular biology while suiting up for the Buffs and intends to use his newfound extra time pursuing entrance to dental school. Sanders will continue to aid Offerdahl along the way, saying they will continue to honor his scholarship during his final year at CU.
A hometown kid from Littleton, Offerdahl’s story has always been one fans could root for. He worked his way up from walk-on to scholarship player, a scholarship he’ll keep as he steps away from the game. A signee under Karl Dorrell, Offerdahl is only of the few Buffs to stick around to witness the transition to the Coach Prime era and a winning program, a testament to his toughness.
His lone touchdown came at the end of last season in garbage time against Utah — a moment Sanders ensured happened. Prime made it clear he wanted one of his favorite players to get his shine after all he’s sacrificed for the program.
Offerdahl finishes his career with 280 yards and a well-earned place in the hearts of this fanbase, as Buffs Nation wishes Charlie the best in whatever comes next. He’s earned it.
