The Buffs will get Shilo back, but could still be without some key pieces.
Colorado’s bye week came at a great time. After dominating UCF two Saturdays ago, the Buffs will host the 18th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats in Week 7. As both squads are 4-1, this game could have Big 12 title game implications. Thankfully, the extra week to rest afforded more time for the Buffs to recoup and recover ahead of the most important game at Folsom Field since 2016.
One of the Buffaloes that benefitted from the extra time off was starting free safety Shilo Sanders. Sanders suffered a broken forearm making an open-field tackle a month ago against Nebraska and underwent surgery to get it repaired. After four weeks of rest and rehab, Sanders will be active against Kansas State this weekend.
“Shilo’s ready,” said Deion Sanders in his Tuesday press conference. “He’s practicing, he’s full go. He has a rubber cast on and doing his thing. I can’t wait to see him back because he and Cam [Silmon-Craig] are unbelievable together.”
Carter Stoutmire, who’s been filling in for Shilo’s absence, will still be included on some packages. According to Deion, Colorado’s defense is fully healthy and ready for K-State.
“We should have the entire starting defense this week,” said Deion on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, it’s looking like that may not be the case for Colorado. During the team’s Wednesday media availability, Colorado defensive ends coach Vincent Dancy alluded to the Buffs potentially being without starting DE Dayon Hayes this week. Hayes missed action against UCF due to an injury and still isn’t completely healthy, but he’s making progress.
“[Hayes’] progressing,” said Dancy. “Right now, he’s still a little gimpy. Looking forward to getting him back.”
As for Colorado’s offense, the only starter who’s been hurt has been Kahlil Benson. Benson suffered an undisclosed injury that forced him to sit out against UCF. His status is unclear ahead of this week, but there’s optimism that he’ll return this Saturday.
