NCAA Womens Basketball: Pac-12 Conference Tournament Semifinals

Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado’s star point guard is getting her much deserved recognition.

Colorado women’s basketball is on a roll after handling business against #12 Utah last Saturday. The team as a whole got some recognition after moving up three spots in the AP poll to #5 on Monday. Now, the Buffs’ best player is getting some individual accolades after her heroics against the Utes.

Buffaloes point guard Jaylyn Sherrod was named as ESPN’s national player of the week, the outlet announced on Monday. Sherrod scored 34 of Colorado’s 76 points, marking her new career high in points scored. If scoring nearly half of her team’s points isn’t enough to amaze anybody, Sherrod also finished the game with 6 steals, a few of which came in absolutely pivotal moments where the Buffs needed a big stop.

Sherrod’s heroics on both ends paved the way for the Buffaloes to beat a really damn good Utah team. If you aren't familiar with the name Jaylyn Sherrod, it’s time to fix that. Colorado’s star point guard is easily one of the 10 best players in the entire country and is also SO FUN to watch. Sherrod plays with so much grit and emotion on the floor, making her must-see TV if you’re a Buffs fan.

It’s hard, perhaps even impossible, to think of a player that deserves player of the week honors more than Jaylyn. She’s the centerpiece of this absolutely stacked Buffaloes squad and deserves a much bigger spotlight.

Congratulations, Jaylyn! You’ve earned this!
