Somebody finally breaks Colorado’s 13 year All-American drought.
For the first time in 13 years, a Colorado Buffalo is once again an All-American. The Buffs’ two-way star, Travis Hunter, was named as the AP’s first team All-American in the all purpose position, which was announced on Friday.
Hunter has done more than enough to deserve his inclusion on this prestigious list, as he was one of Colorado’s top receivers in 2023 despite missing three full games due to injury. What’s extra impressive is that Hunter also played nearly every defense snap at cornerback for Colorado too, where he earned second team All-American honors at CB. Winning both offensive and defensive honors is extraordinarily difficult to do, but Hunter managed to pull it off. Travis is a generational workhorse, so it’s great to see him get some well-deserved praise.
The last Colorado player to receive All-American honors before Hunter was offensive lineman Nate Solder in 2010. This thirteen year drought between Colorado players being named as an All-American is the second longest in program history, as pointed out by Brian Howell on Twitter. The largest gap between All-Americans was the 15 years between 1937 and 1952.
There’s nobody better and more deserving than Travis Hunter to break the curse. Hunter’s tenacity, toughness, grit and community involvement off the field are world class, making him the epitome of what it means to be a Colorado Buffalo.
Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders and Mark Vassett were also names to the second team All-American list for their respective positions. We’ve got some new banners to hang on the lampposts around Folsom Field for the first time in a while, which is certainly cause to rejoice. Hopefully, we’ll see even more All-American Buffaloes in 2024.
