A native of Morrison, Colorado, Rahne attended Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, where he lettered in football and track and field. During his senior season, Rahne led all Colorado quarterbacks with 3,114 passing yards for 33 touchdowns.
Rahne was a three-year starting quarterback at Cornell University from 1999 to 2001.
After working at Holy Cross as a defensive assistant, Cornell hired him to coach RBs.
From there, he joined Ron Prince's staff at KSU (James Franklin was OC at the time) for 3 years. After Prince was fired, Bill Snyder kept him on staff for the next 2 years as a TE Coach.
James Franklin then hired Rahne to coach QBs on his Vanderbilt staff from 2010-2012. Rahne then followed Franklin to Penn State through 2019, where he coached QBs (coached PSU passing records holder Christian Hackenberg), then TEs when Joe Moorhead was brought in as the new OC (coached Mackey finalist Mike Gisecki), and then OC/QB (QB McSorley drafted).
For the 2020 season, Rahne was named the HC at Old Dominion. The 2019 team went 1-11 (0-8 in C-USA). 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid. 2021 saw ODU go bowling (lost to Tulsa) and finish 6-7 (5-3 in C-USA). 2021 has started off with a win vs Virginia Tech with upcoming games at East Carolina and at Virginia. They've also joined a tougher Sun Belt Conference.
