I'm of the opinion that CU needs to move now with Mac and EB to lock up EB.
oofa - I think you mean Vikings here, but I get the point
I'm of the opinion that panicking and rushing this search is the worst thing CU could do. There is absolutely no reason EB needs to jump on an OC job at Minnesota now. Bohn should be contacting him and letting him know CU has interest. If EB also has interest, he can let Frazier know he's not ready to accept the Minny job. If he'd rather jump on an assistant job in Minnesota than wait for a shot at the same job, or better, at his alma mater, so be it.
No, I mean the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
i would think EB would take the viking oc job ahead of the CU oc job. hopefully he'll do great there for around 5 years and then return to boulder as the conquering hero after Mac retires with another national championship.
i can dream, can't i?
then this is a total Crock of ****
I don't think we'd be panicking / rushing if we hire Mac and EB. We've been talking about hiring a new coach since the end of last season. Mike has had plenty of time to gauge interest of folks and see who's really, really interested in the job. And Mac is interested, and I strongly believe him and EB are the lowest risk, highest reward pick we have.
LOL. I sure hope so.
Well, if you're convinced then clearly the search is over...
Seriously, is one interview too much to ask??
My strong suspicion is that multiple interviews have already occurred.
When? Do you really think Bohn, et al, were interviewing candidates who already had other jobs while they already had a head coach in place?? Do you think they got permission from all these schools/teams to speak to their coaches and there's never been any leak??
My strong suspicion is that your strong suspicion is probably incorrect. There may have been a few off-the-record discussions through some intermediaries, but I seriously doubt they've been conducting official interviews.
Frazier is a hot NFL name...don't think he will go to Gophers...sounds like bad rumor to me
Come on, Junction -- any business person knows that the difference between an "official" interview and an "unofficial" interview is 2 letters ("un," to be exact.) Bohn wouldn't be doing his job if he hasn't been actively talking to candidates -- whether in person or on the telephone. It's naive to think that this process will be an open, sunshine filled process. These decisions get made based on unofficial discussions all the time. And for the candidates that are currently coaching somewhere in college, teams get around the "asking for permission" ruse by having representatives of the university talk to the candidate (versus the AD himself). And, to be honest, I'm not sure how many colleges actively get permission to talk to someone before they do so.
I have a moderately strong suspicion that some of the suspicions expressed on this topic are...suspicious.
I always preferred the Legion of Dome (nee: the Road Warriors) over Demolition. But that's just me.
I agree. I also keep hearing that EB is a hot NFL name. They would be taking quite a risk going to the Gophers.
So you would be ok with Bohn making this decision without having talked to the candidates himself?? Seriously??
This process needs to include interviews with Bohn/CU officials and the candidates. Directly. Not through some third party intermediary. If it turns out that one candidate would rather jump at another job instead, so be it. It's not as if EB is somehow head and shoulders above the rest of the potential candidates for this job. The decision is too important to derail a complete, in depth interview process just because one candidate has a different timetable.
My strong suspicion is that Bohn has talked with many (if not all) of the candidates himself. I don't think the "ask for permission" BS is tightly adhered to.
Bohn seemed pretty unhappy when Wake Forest didn't observe the "ask permission" rule when talking to Bzdelik...
I don't think it's a "rule" as much as a "courtesy." And at this point, we need the athletic department to look out for #1 at this point. If that requires not extending formal courtesies, then so be it.
I just can't imagine EB would leave the vikings to be the gophers' OC.
And THEN we'll hire Mac & EB so that EB doesn't become a Gopher!
Unless he thinks his time with the Vikings is about to end. Brad Childress is going to get ****canned before too long. There's no guarantees that they will remain in-house with the next hire.
If he's going to leave to go anywhere it would be the Buffs, no? The only question remains is if he would be selected here...don't **** this up Bohan
Well it could be Tortious Interference to contact someone whom you know is under contract...CU got nailed with it when they contacted Chuck Fairbanks while he was at New England - the court awarded the Patriots $1 million of CUs money for that incident. So there is a precedent. By the way, no interviews have taken place...official or unofficial.
Is that your Japanese cousin?
Frazier not interested in Gophers job
