Obviously no one has written about this match, so I thought I'd give a few thoughts.
The Buffs walked into a hornets' nest in Provo on Friday night. BYU obviously wanted revenge for the two consecutive losses to CU in the NCAA tourney. The stadium was full - over 5K - and the Cougars came out stoked. A massive challenge for CU to overcome. And for much of the time it seems CU played well and held their own. But BYU was better and more creative in the final third of the pitch. While CU would settle for a long shot BYU would work the ball a bit closer to the goal. This was the difference between the two teams.
Both of BYU's goals came in the first half and it was just too much for the Buffs to overcome. They never game up and worked to score all the way to the end of the match, with their best chance coming late in the match when Brie Hooks used her speed to get to the ball just before the keeper on the edge of the box, but her shot rolled just wide.
The good news is that CU played hard and relatively smart for most of the match against a very talented foe that looked to me like a top 10 caliber team.
