Tough matchup for the Buffs tonight, hopefully they can pull off the upset.
It is, I just forgot what day it was.
So, the match is less than an hour away. Go Buffs!
Again, for those with access, match is being streamed on espn3- http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/...cer-Colorado-vs-North-Carolina-(Second-Round)
Live stats hopefully here- http://www.cstv.com/gametracker/lau...hool=fo&sport=wsoccer&camefrom=&startschool=&
And, just found a few related articles and previews for the match thought I'd list here (Of course, Cubuffs.com preview linked to in original post):
North Carolina’s official preview (Almost all about them and their history- very little on the Buffs)- http://www.goheels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=3350&ATCLID=209772731
Preview from a local North Carolina newspaper- http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/11/20/4339485/unc-womens-soccer-faces-colorado.html
Preview from the CU Independent- http://cuindependent.com/2014/11/20/buffs-embrace-unc-challenge-prepare-second-round/58023
From topdrawersoccer.com ( http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/coll...womens-tourney:-second-round-preview_aid35454 ). Shorter preview, so I’m also quoting their words for this match below:
Colorado (14-6-1) vs. North Carolina (13-3-2), 7 p.m.
The first of what should be many ACC vs. Pac-12 clashes, Colorado’s riding a four-game winning streak into Chapel Hill with the aim of securing a historic win against the Tar Heels. Brie Hooks has been heavily involved in that run, with a goal or assists in the last four games. The sophomore forward will have her hands full looking to crack a stout UNC defense.
Every NCAA game for UNC will feature the same question: who will score? They have plenty of players who can answer that, with Amber Munerlyn and Paige Nielsen supplying the goals in a straightforward first round win against South Dakota State. With 16 goals conceded in 21 games, the Buggaloes have a solid defense that has seen just one goal scored against them in the last five games. They’ll look to keep it tight and hit on the counter.
Prediction: Colorado 1, North Carolina 1 (UNC wins on PKs)
lets do this!!!
ESPN3 stream has just begun. (The previous match (South Carolina defeating Seattle) went to penalty kicks, so assume this match was delayed a little bit.)
And, the stream goes down, and now its up again.
Before it went down-
1) Looks like a cool night in Chapel Hill (although nothing compared to the Buff's last match) and
2) Because there's already been a match on the field, it's a little rough.
And, the match has begun!
field looks like ****
North Carolina definitely with the better of the play so far, but no score with ~32 minutes left in the 1st half.
No score with 13 minutes left in the 1st half. UNC substituting 1/2 its team right now.
So- 0-0 at the half.
Overall, not bad. The Buffs were definitely on the defensive most of the time, and didn't seem to try to establish much midfield possession, but UNC only got two shots on goal, and only one that was very dangerous. The Buffs with only one shot on goal on a decent long ball and movement by Maddy Krauser (also their only shot of any kind). Per stats, UNC outshooting the Buffs 9-1. Buffs defense also with some nice blocks early. Not as much swarming on offense by UNC as I thought might happen- Buff's kept things relatively under control while keeping in good position and just kicking the balls out of danger without trying to keep possession in any/ many threatening situations.
Later in the half, seemed like the Buff's weren't penned in as much on defense, and hopefully that will continue.
0-0 at the half and I think CU controlled a lot of the later part of that half. Hopefully they can come up with the big win!
Hopefully the Buffs have been conditioning hard this year. In what I think is typical for them, so far 6 position (non goaltender) players played the full half and 2 others played over 40 minutes. Conversely, only 3 UNC position players (all back row) played the whole half, and the most any other UNC player played was 32 minutes.
Note- Announcers are saying it's now down in the 30's.
Interesting- UNC evidently even substituting its goalie as the 2nd half begins. They will all be fresh.
Interesting the announcers seem technically proficient, but don't know much of anything about the Buffs, and not even that much about UNC.
Scheele makes the toughest save so far. Still 0-0 with 34 minutes left.
Another mass substitution by UNC with 31 minutes left.
No score with 15 minutes left in regulation.
I know next to nothing about soccer, but I don't think the Buffs were favored to beat UNC in Chapel Hill. Keep up the good work.
And, it's going to be overtime- still 0-0
20-2 shot advantage for UNC. 6-2 on shots on goal.
OT starting in seconds.
For as much as UNC has played on the Buffs' side of the field, they really haven't gotten much at the net. Only 1 corner. Definitely facing an elite team tonight, but I don't think they're as good as UCLA or Stanford.
that was coming... ****
UNC goal- they win 1-0 in OT
that certainly had an air of inevitability...but ****
Nothing to be ashamed of tonight or for this season.
Made the tourney and whipped a Top 20 team before falling in OT to one of the top programs in the nation on their field.
Proud of our team.
on the bright side... zona is getting absolutely obliterated by aggie
