Spring Soccer

Looks like the Buffs will be short a couple players for at part of the spring, but for GOOD reasons!

From the NZ head coach Tony Readings: "For Martine up front, it is no secret that we need to score more goals to be more successful. She had a good U-20s World Cup and we want her to carry that form on.”

5:30 am Colorado time Wednesday for NZ v Scotland. Hope Puketapu gets on the pitch for the football ferns.

Looks like her team has had a couple disappointing results so far, but congrats to Ms. Puketapu for getting her 1st playing time with the national team.

Not that it matters much (if at all), but select (the score related) tweets from today's 1st spring match-

Both goals by . . . you guessed it, Taylor Kornieck. First one on a PK.

A couple things I just gleamed from the tweets (so may not be accurate at all)-
1) Looked like a couple mentions of Ms. Kornieck passes to frosh Martine Puketapu nearly leading to goals, and it was the later who earned the penalty converted by Ms. Koenieck. Hope that connection continues to flourish and improve (along with of course connections between ALL the player) before the season starts.

2) Looks like special commendation should be given to graduating senior Kenzie Tillett, who (per the 1st of the below 2 tweets) looks to have been brought out of "retirement" to be the goalie today (her original position before being moved elsewhere a couple seasons ago) with both the returning goalies out injured.
Of course, mainly hope both Ms. Tompkins and Watson have complete and speedy recoveries, and whatever injuries they have don't cost them too much prep time before next season.

Interesting- looks like they had to improvise at goalie today. (For those not familiar, I believe the goalie is typically listed 1st when lineups are given out like in the below tweet.) I see there is a Madeline Boutros who is a CU student and, per a roster I found from last year (http://www.cusoccer.net/2016_Gold_Roster.pdf), is a goalie on the Buff club team. Must have been cool for her (assuming it was her) to play for the D1 Buffs, and great for the team she helped out.

Congrats to the team. Great to see our freshman scoring so many of the goals, and that one of our regular goalies (Scout Watson) could play today!

And, congrats to recent Buff Buff Danica Evans on her 1st PRO GOAL! BIG TIME!!!
(Also her team's 1st goal of the year. She came in at the 75th minute, so didn't have much time to do her thing in salvaging a point for her team late.
Edit- Per http://www.nwslsoccer.com/games/info/4g03oto3pabd7m21qeonljbah (also includes a full match replay), In what must be a special thrill, an earlier substitute for her team was legendary Brazilian player Marta (five-time FIFA World Player of the Year), who almost scored the winning goal in stoppage time; Ms. Evans playing with special players, and starting to prove she's special herself.)

That was a great play!
