BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of Colorado tennis team is facing some March Madness of its own, falling 7-0 to No. 13 California on Friday, continuing the Buffaloes’ intense five-match road trip. Cal is the third straight ranked opponent Colorado has faced, and the fifth in its last six matches. All six of the Buffs’ most recent opponents have either been ranked or had at least one ranked player, with Cal being no exception, boasting two ranked doubles teams and three ranked singles players. Friday’s match was just the second meeting between the teams, with the Buffs left searching for their first points against their Pac-12 Conference foe. CU falls to 6-9 overall, 1-4 Pac-12 in its first trip to Berkeley, Calif. Cal continues to shine in conference play with a 9-4, 3-0 Pac-12 record. Once again, sophomore Julyette Steur had one of the most competitive matches for the Buffs. Facing her fifth consecutive ranked player (third in a row ranked in the top 10), Steur claimed a team-high eight games, but couldn’t grab the win, falling 6-4, 6-4 to No. 9 Annett Schutting. The Buffs complete their California road trip with matches on Saturday and Monday. CU takes on Stanford at 2 p.m. (MDT) on March 23. They face their final non-conference opponent with a visit to San Francisco on March 25. First serve is at 2 p.m. (MDT).
