Three from Big 12 on watch for versatility

As you might have noticed here on the Big 12 blog, it's watch list season. And there's a new award on the scene, an admittedly interesting one.

In honor of former two-way Notre Dame star Paul Hornung, the Hornung Award will be presented to college football's most versatile player beginning in 2010.

Three players from the Big 12, all solid selections, have made the watch list.

Broyles is already one of the college football's best receivers, and returned punts for Oklahoma last season, highlighted by an 87-yard touchdown return against Oklahoma State. He also returned four kicks, but won't be back doing that in 2010. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a punt returner and is also used sparingly on end-arounds for the Sooners.

Paul returned punts and kicks as well for the Huskers, including a 59-yard punt return to open scoring in Nebraska's 28-20 win over Colorado last season. He also caught 40 passes for 796 yards and four touchdowns.

Thomas technically only plays quarterback in the Wildcat formation, but he was an option quarterback before coming to Kansas State. He led the Big 12 in rushing last season with 1,225 yards and caught 25 passes, as well as completing three of his four passes on the year.
