Timeline for the coaching hire

If we are not going to fire Hawkins until after the season, much of the legwork for the next hire better be completed between now and then. Here is a timeline with some key dates:

November 26th (Friday)
-Last game of the season against NU.

December 4th (Saturday)
-SEC, Big 12, and ACC Championship games.
-Last weekend of Pac-10 games.

December 11th-12th (Saturday/Sunday)
-Weekend available for official visitors.

December 18th-19th (Saturday/Sunday)
-Weekend available for official visitors.

December 20th-January 3rd, 2011
-Dead period.

Ideally we get two weekends of official visitors before the dead period, but we need at least one for sure. That means getting the new coach and most/all of his staff in place pretty soon after the season ends. It is going to be interesting logistically, considering the championship games and Pac-10 games are going to be happening that first weekend of December. If the search stalls, you can pretty much completely write off the 2011 class, which would be a damn shame.

Agree 100%, but it's hard if our coach is on someone else's staff or the head guy to get him in time to recruit. Belloti and Mac are the ones who can step in right away and get rolling

I'm thinking we need to have a guy in place fully hired the week following the Nebraska game. That gives him two weeks to hire a staff and try to get some visitors. There is then another week for visitors once the entire staff is in place. So basically hopefully the coach we hire has a few guys in mind the day he's hired and can get them recruiting right away. At the very least they should be looking over our overwhelming number of current commitments and figuring out how they figure into their plans. Then probably start trying to talk to kids that they've been recruiting for their previous schools.

It should be interesting to see who the new coach keeps on staff. If he keeps Ambrose on that should help recruiting quite a bit, same with Cabral. I'm not really sure about the rest of the coaches. If he tells Bohn he likes Riddle or Johnson and wants to keep them, Bohn has a great red flag to use to know whether that coach is the guy or not.
