GOLDEN, Colo. —University of Colorado sophomore Abrianna Torres got her 2014-15 season off to a great start when she won the pentathlon on Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Open and Multi meet.
Torres recorded a score of 3,617 points in the pentathlon. She started the day off with a time of 9.10 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and followed that up with a high jump mark of 1.62 meters, which tied for fourth. Torres won the shot put portion of the event with a toss of 13.04, over two meters further than the next competitor (Erica White had the runner-up mark of 10.36). She placed second in the long jump (5.56) and finished the day with a time of 2:44.54 (15th overall) in the 800.
