USAFA, Colo. —University of Colorado junior Mark Jones got his season off to a brilliant start by winning the high jump at the U.S. Air Force Holiday Open on Friday night, clearing 7-2.25.

The mark tied his career-best, which ranks third on CU’s all-time list behind Jason Dudley (7-3.5) and Bill Jankunis (7-3.25). Jones also did well in the long jump, recording a third-place finish with a jump of 22-5.

Eileen Gehring won a pair of events in the sprints in her first meet of the season. She clocked a personal-best of 7.58 in the 60-meter dash and followed up that performance with a time of 38.74 in the 300, a non-traditional event for the Buffs. Her teammate, Lindsy Mattson, placed second in the 300 (39.48) and was sixth in the 60 (7.77).
