UCLA and Utah got off to good starts -- for the most part -- Thursday while posting big wins over Rice and Northern Colorado respectively.UCLA 49, Rice 24: Johnathan Franklin rushed for 214 yards -- 14.3 yards per carry -- and three touchdowns, and the Bruins pitched a second half shutout after a spotty first half defensively.Redshirt freshman QB Brett Hundley got off to a spectacular start -- he ran 72 yards for a TD on his first college play -- and shook off a lull to turn in a strong performance.

Meh. The other side of looking at it is Utah was in a battle with the worst team in the Big Sky for over 25 minutes, and UCLA's defense was badly exposed by Rice, giving up 24 points in the first half. Neither did anything to change the notion that they are certainly beatable in Folsom if the Buffs have half a pulse this year.
