USA Indoor Championships Set to Begin Friday in Albuquerque

2/20/2014

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Reigning world indoor record holder Jenn Suhr, 2012 Olympians Galen Rupp and Manteo Mitchell, and 2013 World Championship finalists and teenagers Mary Cain and Ajee’ Wilson will be among the names highlighting the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which begin Friday, February 21, and run through Sunday, February 23, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Rupp faces off against a stacked field in the men’s 1,500m, including 2014 Wanamaker Mile victor Will Leer, Olympic medalist Leo Manzano, 2008 Olympian Lopez Lomong, 2009 U.S. 3,000m Champion David Torrence, Garrett Heath and Ryan Hill.

Cain is entered in the women’s 1,500m, facing off against training partners Treniere Moser and Jordan Hasay, as well as two-time Olympian Shannon Rowbury. Cain is poised for a fantastic 2014, having won twice already this indoor season and riding the momentum from her Wanamaker Mile victory last weekend.

Wilson leads all qualifiers for the women’s 800m and will look to make her first World Championship team indoors. Also included in the field are former Tennessee All-American Chanelle Price, Heather Kampf, who will also compete in the women’s 1,500m, and Molly Beckwith.

Two-time defending champion Sharon Day-Munroe will attempt to three-peat in the women’s pentathlon while five-time SEC Champion Gray Horn looks to pick up his first national multi-event title after taking third in the decathlon at the 2012 Olympic Trials.

The 2014 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships feature unprecedented broadcast coverage, with Saturday and Sunday's events airing live online or on broadcast television.

USATF.tv picks up coverage Saturday beginning with the heats of the women's 60-meter hurdles at 2 p.m. ET. NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) will show races live beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET while USATF.tv will show field events during the TV window. USATF.tv will pick coverage back up at 6:30 p.m. ET with The Cool Down, USATF.tv's show with post-event highlights, exclusive athlete interviews and behind-the-scenes extras.

Sunday’s events will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, Universal Sports and USATF.tv. USATF.tv kicks off Sunday’s coverage with the women’s pole vault at 12:45 p.m. ET and will livestream all events until Universal Sports takes over race coverage from 2-3:30 p.m. ET. NBCSN will continue race coverage from 3:30-5 p.m. ET, while USATF.tv will show live field events during both TV windows. Once again, The Cool Down on USATF.tv will begin at 5 p.m. ET following the conclusion of Sunday’s meet, featuring exclusive content.

The USA Indoor Track & Field Championships are the final stop of the 2014 USATF Indoor Championship Series. The event serves as the selection process for the members of Team USA who will represent the U.S. at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, March 7-9.

With the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau, the New Mexico Sports Authority, the University of New Mexico, the City of Albuquerque and USATF New Mexico again serving as official sponsors, this is the fifth consecutive year the Albuquerque Convention Center has hosted the USA Indoor Championships.
