WBB- 2018 5'10" combo guard Lesila (Sila) Finau (Signed to Colorado)

Looks like a new women's basketball 2018 commit in VERY athletic-looking 5'10" combo guard Lesila (Sila) Finau, who attended Dublin HS in Dublin CA, and played club ball for Cal Stars Basketball. (Edit- From a link on her tweet below, looks like she (???) most recently may have been playing for Peninsula Basketball Club.)
(From various Google search results, looks like she had been previously committed to Minnesota since roughly October 2017. From a club announcement at the time she committed there (https://www.calstars.org/news_article/show/845188), her other finalists then were Wisconsin, UC Santa Barbara and San Jose State.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

Maxpreps page - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/les...VebEWg/gendersport/girls-basketball-stats.htm (Looks like she did EVERYTHING well for her HS team, this past season averaging roughly 21 points/ 5 assists/ 7 rebounds/ 5 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Also already looks like a solid shooter, showing 34% from 3 and 70% from the FT line her senior year.)

A couple videos-
Since her team won by 41 points, probably not the greatest competition, but the most recent highlight video I could find. (Note- she also has a sister who is a junior featured in the video who looks somewhat similar to her; To differentiate, Sila is jersey #1.)

A short documentary- style video (at least partly produced by a family-member?) -

Another short (more recent) video found-

(Always love ambidextrous players, and looks like she's already very comfortable with either hand, with many of the drives shown using her left-hand, but she looks to be a right-handed shot.)

Based on Coach Payne tweeting the below, I'm editing the thread title from "verbal" to "signed" with the Buffs!

Just to confirm what Aztec mentioned in post #3.... Sila had signed with Minnesota but received her release after the coaching change. The one other official visit she made in May that I could find was to Washington. Always good to win a recruiting battle over another PAC-12 team.

Buffzone (Brian Howell) Article on Ms. Finau's commitment/ signing-

"
The Colorado women's basketball team has added some talent to its roster.

On Friday, Lesila "Sila" Finau of Dublin, Calif., signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Buffaloes' program this summer.

A 5-foot-10 guard, Finau signed a letter of intent with Minnesota in November. When Gophers head coach Marlene Stollings left to take the job at Texas Tech in April, however, Finau's plans changed.

"I think she still liked Minnesota, but it just changes the complexion of your vision of what it was going to be," CU head coach JR Payne said. "But, she reopened her recruitment and she narrowed her recruitment very quickly."

Finau was released from her NLI at Minnesota, took an official visit to CU in late May and then visited Washington last weekend before choosing to play with the Buffs.

"It was tough for us because all of our players were gone, so she did an official visit where (sophomore guard Peyton Carter) was the only kid that she went to dinner with," Payne said. "She committed to us without getting to meet the team, but I think she just loved what we're doing here and loved Boulder and felt good about her opportunities academically and athletically."

As a senior at Dublin High School, Finau averaged 20.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 4.8 steals per game, helping the Gaels to a 25-6 record.

One new bit of info at the bottom of Howell's article on Sila Finau he mentions that Sara Castro will not be returning to the Buffs but will be looking for an opportunity elsewhere. I'm guessing she realized that, with Swartz and Finau coming in as guards, her chances of getting much playing time here were really limited.

It’s also interesting to note J.R. states another player may be brought in this summer.

As for Finau, looks like the coaching staff believes she could be the starting point guard following Kennedy’s graduation.

Sila has a sister who will be a senior in ‘19.
