    Looks like a good get!

Interesting that WBB has recruited a player from Australia (Emma Clark) last year and NZ this year, and I noticed that Marty Puketapu on the soccer team is also from NZ and there is an Aussie on the roster (Isobel Dalton) as well. There are also two players from Australia on the Women's golf team, and two more on the Tennis team.

Compare that to the mens' scholarship sports, who have one south pacific player (Stefanou) between all of them.

Is there some sort of connection to Australia on the women's side at CU? Or is this all coincidence?

I've had the opportunity to chat briefly with Marty as well as Sarah Kinzner (Canada, soccer) about why they came to Colorado. Basically it's that there's not enough competition in their respective home countries and thus the US is the place to come to to find it. I assume that it's the same to some extent for Whittaker.

I too like her highlights. She is assertive in getting to the basket both off the dribble and in the low post. She's also got an outside shot. I can see why the coaching taff wanted to sign her. Now, the level of competition in NZ and Oceania is not too tough. It will be interesting to see how big of an adjustment she has to make to the level of play in the Pac 12.

Next season the Buffs will have three players listed at 6-4 and one at 6-3. Let's hope that leads to more baskets in the paint.

This sounds about right for the WBB players also. If we go back to the intro post for Emma Clarke, she says that she is looking for playing for CU to help her reach her goal of playing for the Australian Olympic BB team.

I'm eager to read JR"s comments on her and in particular how they came across her in the recruiting process. I can imagine that after seeing her tapes they became in intrigued. Wonder who else was recruiting her?

Emma Clarke isn't the only Buff in the FIBA Asia U18 championships taking place currently in India- Charlotte Whittaker is as well.

In NZ's first game, a loss to Japan, she was the leading scorer with 23 points in 35 minutes going 10-14 from the floor and 2-3 from the line.

In today's game, a loss to Japan, she had 12 points in 35 minutes going 6-11 from the floor.

New Zealand plays Malaysia in the final game of the group stage. Looks like NZ will not qualify for the FIBA U19 championships.

Charlotte Whittaker scored 18 points in only 14 minutes of action earlier today a NZ mauled Malaysia 99-32.

Looks like NZ and Australia will meet in a consolation game in a couple of days.

Australia defeated NZ earlier today and in part because they focused on shutting down Charlotte Whittaker, which they did effectively holding her to 2 points on just 2 shots. NZ plays Indonesia in the fifth place game.

New Zealand finished 5th in the tourney with Charlotte averaging 13.8 ppg in about 25.5 minutes a game on 63% shooting. Looks she led the tall ferns in scoring in the tourney.

According to Coach Shan at tonight's WBB game, Charlotte picked CU over her other finalists of Miami, Okie State and Gonzaga.

I hadn't really thought about it but it makes a lot of sense for her to come to CU in January for the start of the spring semester. Her high school year is over in New Zealand …. southern hemisphere, school finishes up before their summer vacation (just like here) except their summer starts in December.
This way she will be part of the conditioning and the practices between now and the end of the BB season to give her a jump start on being ready to play come the fall.
