WBB Pac-12 Tournament

USC is not a good match-up for CU as the Trojan's guards are a bit too quick for CU. The Buffs have struggles with them not just this season, but last season as well. A win means they face Oregon State in the second round - another challenging game.

I heard Lexy on the 760 today after the game. She seemed to like the draw. I guess USC hasn't been playing well lately and is dealing with a few injuries.

USC definitely solidly beat us in both those games. Always hard to beat a team 3 times in a season though. Trojans ended the regular season dropping 3 in a row, granted one was a 2OT loss to a top 10 ASU side, so..

USC top scorer Alexyz Vaioletama has been out with concussion issues and post player Kristen Simon was out for "breaking team rules". If both are still out on Thursday, the Buffs chances are definitely increased.

was hoping to make the game, as I live 5 blocks from key arena, but it's the exact same time as the mens game across town? pretty inconvenient.

The tournament band was also going to go to the men's game, but unfortunately they are at the same time so they won't be able to

On my Dish schedule, it shows CU playing in the afternoon. The CU article and the Pac 12 website show that we play in the evening. I sure hope that is correct.

10-9 USC with ~14 minutes left.

2 Buffs with 2 fouls already- most damaging was a blocking foul on Jen Reese when she was CLEARLY in position for a charge call. (She's been sitting for MANY minutes already after getting 4 quick points.)

23-17 Buffs with ~6:30 left. L. Kresl sitting with 2 fouls. J. Reese came in for her, and as already noted already has 2 fouls herself. So far, she still has 2.

Buffs have switched to a zone.

Note- Interesting- the livestats have CU players associated with the USC team, and visa versa. So, it's showing USC up, but that is inaccurate.

Note- 2 Trojans also now with 2 fouls- look like they could be a/ the major factor for both teams. (In addition to Reese and Kresl, Correal also has 2 fouls.)

Ends up a good half for the Buffs- up 39-27. USC VERY cold- shooting 23%. Late in the half the announcers said only 2 of their points were regular 1st shot points off the offense- all the others were either off offensive rebounds are points off turnovers.

J. Swan and H. Smith leading the way offensively with 11 and 10 points, respectively. B. Thomas, although being hassled a lot and so has a couple turnovers, overall has been VERY solid given the pressure being applied, and has 3 assists while having to log relatively heavy minutes (15 at the half) with L. Kresl's foul issues.

The Buffs got a break late in the 1st half, as the Trojans leading scorer picked up her 3rd foul, so hopefully they'll be able to go after her with J. Swan (or whoever is she is guarding) in the 2nd half.

A lot of the lead gone- 45-39 with ~15 minutes left.

ANOTHER HORRIBLE foul call against Jen Reese for her 3rd when it looked like she had position going for a loose ball, got shouldered out of the way and fell to the floor, and somehow the foul was called on HER. A subsequent no call when L. Kresl was run over from behind and no foul call has Coach Lappe getting very close to a T.

49-42 Buffs with ~12 minutes left.

Now J. Swan has picked up a couple quick fouls, so SHE also now has 3 fouls, along with Kresl (whose 3rd foul looked like it should have been charged to another Buff) and Reese.

Buffs are raining 3's right now- up 64-50 with ~7 minutes left. USC coach has obviously been frustrated with her team- took 2 timeouts within a couple minutes, and only has one left for the game.

L. Kresl looking great- driving either for layups or pass-outs for open shots for her teammates. L. Huggins 3-3 from 3 and has 11 points overall.

Still a little nervous on this one.

The Buffs up 69-56 with ~ 4 minutes left, but USC has amped up the pressure and caused a couple turnovers, as well as, for some reason, rushing the Buffs so they aren't using the clock even when they get past half court. USC also getting A LOT of offensive rebounds, especially with J. Swan out with 4 fouls (4th on a questionable charging call).

Buffs get the win 75-63! 2 victories for the Buffs in Seattle tonight.

Great job by the team. Forgot to mention earlier- GREAT shooting night overall- the Buffs finishing over 53% from the field, 5-7 from 3, and 87% from the line.

Great win!

#1 seed Oregon State up next. That's more winnable than people think. Beavs have played lights out all year, but this isn't like playing those Stanford teams of the past few years that had an overwhelming talent advantage. Buffs have to play great, but they don't have to be perfect to win.

Watched both games side by side. Both responded really well to early 2nd half runs. Brecca got some quality time at the end of this game practicing breaking the press, and had a few turnovers there, but overall they played very composed, and hit the shots. They were tied with osu at the half last game, they have a chance tomorrow for what would be a giant upset.

I tuned in after the men's game. Are we sure our Buffs were playing? I didn't hear the announcers mention them.
