So after reading about 46,000 posts debating candidates, I was thinking about what are the most important attributes for our program's next coach (you know, basically the things we haven't seen in Boulder for 5 years)?

How would you rank the following attributes (or add some that I did not list) and how do they relate to your candidates?

I believe our guy has gotta have the following:
    • Leadership/Ethics
    • Head Coaching or quality Coordinator experience/resume
    • Recruiting ability/talent development
    • BCS experience
    • Gameday coaching
    • Program loyalty
    • Winning record/history
Based on my preferred attributes, I'm thinking the Mac/EB combo or Les Miles would top my list (although, admittedly, both have demonstrated struggles in the gameday coaching area).

I also like the thought of McElwain and Malzahn, but I worry about bringing someone in who may only use CU as a stepping stone up the ladder or have a "hired gun" mentality looking for the next higher payday.

I should also have said that the HC or coordinator experience should be from the BCS-- no more try to hire the "hot" mid major candidate

I don't disagree! Based on what I'd be looking for in the next coach, he jumped right up high on my list

All I want are two things:

    1) Lights out recruiter
    2) Guy who can take his guys and beat yours, or can take your guys and beat his...

Program loyalty is BS. If you bring the right guy in with the right contract loyalty isn't an issue. In fact it could be argued that loyalty is like putting blinders on so you only see what you want to see.

    :yeahthat:

I totally agree. Mac is the gold standard for Buffs coaches, and when he was hired, he was a Michigan assistant who had graduated from Missouri. Not exactly a fantastic Buff pedigree.

Get the guy who will win.

    Recruiting, recruiting & recruiting.

A high powered offense with a balanced attack.

A reputation for sending players to the NFL.

Runs a clean, scandal free program.

    1. X's and O's. Hawkins biggest failure is that he doesn't appear to know a damn thing about the game of football.
    2. Recruiting.
    3. Quality assistants.

Nothing else matters. I don't care if the guy is a douche if he wins.

Greg, I've never figured out if you are a Horn troll associating with the Buffs, or if you are a Buff fan living with Horns.
