What are your Top 5 all-time CU wins?

You kids are forgetting that we won the 1971 Bluebonnet Bowl (over #15 Houston) to finish 3rd in the country. Not bad and for my money, better than a regular season win. Although we lost to #1 NU and #2 OU, we also beat top 10 LSU and Ohio St teams that year. All 5 of these games were away games, btw.

Almost - the nubby game was in Boulder and nationally televised.

But point well taken. The road wins against osu and lsu were huge and I think a major contributor to the Buffs ending the year ranked #3.

Looking at this list makes me a little bummed that I haven't been alive or was just born for 60% of most people's lists. For what it's worth, my dad graduated in 87', so his last year was the 86' Nebraska game. This is my last year and things seem to be looking quite similar. Looking forward to that natty in the next four years.

Your dad and I graduated in the same year. He saw us struggle and suffer our first 2 years at CU. Then McCartney got it rolling and we got the original Rise. Kind of fitting that his son will get to witness the second turnaround. Hope it lasts a lot longer this time.

I don't know if this Rise will be as high, but I do think that things have been done to make it more sustainable & not dependent on having a once-a-generation coach at the helm. With facilities and the basic infrastructure of the program revamped with focus on growing the booster culture, it's built for long-term stability instead of CU's traditional ebbs and flows.

Okay, I stand corrected.

Can you imagine an AD ginning up a schedule like that? Boosters would skin him alive.

Yep, it was brutal - we were pretty good some of those years, my high school years and before.

I can't remember the name of the qb, but the offense had Charlie Davis, Cliff Branch, JV Cain (iirc), and some linemen that went to the NFL. Defense had Bill Brundage, John "Bad Dude" Stearns, and I think Cullen Bryant.

Helluva team.

62-36 is my favorite because it's the only one on Nik's list I was present for.

But in importance the '89 Notre Dame game comes first. I'd put 20-10 Nebraska next because it was the culmination of Mac's entire strategy to bring CU a Big 8 championship leading to a national one a few years later.

Then, I'd have to go research some of the older games that probably belong on the list.

Top 5 that I've been to or seen... 2016 Oregon is close. We shall see if this is the true indication of The Rise, if so, this past week will move onto the list.

1) 2001 Nebraska - what a ridiculously amazing game.
2) 2001 Big 12 championship game over UT. My moms side of the family is all from Austin, so this one was especially sweet.
3) 1994 Miracle at Michigan. I can still remember where I was when kordell let that bomb go.
4) 2007 Oklahoma was at the time such a signature win for hawk. I was really hoping that would have been the turning point, but lo and behold we were getting a smokescreen.
5) 1994 Iowa State. Being in the stands and seeing Rashaan hit 2,000 yards was such an amazing experience.

Not a top 5 all time win, for sure, but for the entertainment dollar and just excitement, the "Lightning Bolt" game at Mile Hi vs CSU was epic.

No love for 1991 v. nebraska?

Freezing cold. Folsom stands were simply packed snow and ice. Biekert returned a blocked PAT. Game ended in a tie on a blocked nub field goal. Loved that game.

Zero degrees at kick-off! My toes froze during that game, despite wearing battery-powered "Electric heater socks" under two pairs of wool and cotton socks!

That was great and I'd add:
1970: CU 41 - Penn state 13. They were #4, national televison ABC - a big deal pre-cable/computer, people could only see a few games per weekend. Phil Irwin made the cover of SI, got the attention of the east coast, because the Buffs broke PSU's 31 game win streak. Buffs kicked ass. Saw my future wife there with her GFs instead of a date so I decided to ask her out..........well, three out four ain't bad!

Whatever the game was, that the team pointed up at Sal in the pressbox.

The OK game where Schnellenberger said he didn't want an asterisk next to the win, and Hessler tore them up

Fixed the PSU game comments by addition, FY!

That game was very memorable, but the thread title is "What are your Top 5 all-time CU wins?".

Scary thing is going back 10 years. What would it be?

2007: CU 27 Oklahoma 24
2016: CU 41 @ Oregon 38
2010: CU 29 Georgia 27 (It's an SEC team. Unlike WVU, Georgia is at least big time)
2007: CU 65 Nebraska 51 (Bowl eligibility for both on the line. Hanging 65 on those ****ers is priceless
2008: CU 17 West Virginia 14 (Embarrassing that beating a 9-4 WVU team in a mediocre game is even worth mentioning)

It's not good when I have to consider a road win at Texas Tech from 9 years ago as a possibility. Or beating overrated Kansas teams.

Thankfully we're about to add some good ones to this list and it will change in a hurry.

1. CU 10 ND 9 1991
Some controversial calls, but it did get us our only natty.

2. CU 27 NU 21 1989
Biggest game to ever be played in Boulder. #2 vs #3

3. CU 20 NU 10 1986
First win over NU since '67. Turning point to the best era in CU history.

4. CU 27 NU 12 1990
EB redeems himself from fumbling 5 times to scoring 4 TDs in 4th qtr.

5. CU 62 NU 36 2001
At the time most points ever scored against NU. Felt so good after 5 straight years of heartbreaking close losses to the nubs.

Honorable mention in no particular order.
'71 LSU, '71 Ohio st, late 70's Penn st (ended their long winning streak), '85 Oregon, '85 Arizona, '89 OU, '94 Michigan, '95 ND, '95 A&M, '95 OU, '96 KSU, '01 KSU, '01 Texas, '07 OU

Great list.

I limited it to games I attended, just for fun:

1) Nubs going down in 2001
2) 2001 Big 12 championship game. Got to sit in the temporary seats for players. 50 yard line. Got the official team hats and shirts after the game. Epic.
3) November 26, 2004, Lincoln, Nebraska. Shut the bars down and had the greatest train ride home in my life.
4) September 16, 1989. Boulder. My dad took me to see the Buffs take down the Illini. Game that made me fall head over heals for the Buffs. Cheap bastard decided to take his best friend to the Nebraska game that year instead of me. Ha. Such is life.
5) Iowa State in 94. Rashaan getting over 2k.
