Why no public outcry re: Bieniemy?

I had to look that one up and this was what Wikipedia said:

As implied by the definition found in the Oxford English Dictionary, a cathartic experience may refer to a process of releasing pent up emotions, for example by listening to music.

In medicine, a cathartic is a substance which accelerates defecation. This is in contrast to a laxative, which is a substance which eases defecation, usually by softening the stool.[1] It is possible for a substance to be both a laxative and a cathartic. However, agents such as psyllium seed husks increase the bulk of the stool.

Which meaning does it have for you?

With Wally it is probably both.

The faculty has already attacked McCartney's return -- why are they silent on Bieniemy?

He had an altercation with a fireman or something (admittedly I don't have all the facts right) while he was at CU.

After graduating from CU, but before he returned to the Buffs as an offensive assistant, he had another altercation, I think it was with a campus police officer, which ended up with him being "banned from campus" for a period of time.

He had a DUI while he was an assistant coach for the Buffs.

So why haven't the faculty jumped on Bieniemy, so far?

My take:

If you screw up when you are in your twenties, as so many people do when they experience making their own decisions for the first time, you are forgiven if you go on to lead a good, clean life. If you have spent more than a decade OUT of trouble, then we generally say "oh, he figured it out, he's turned his life around."

Mac's problem was he never recanted his anti-gay, anti-woman stance (until TODAY's Boulder Daily Camera, when it was too late.)

The criticism of Mac was current, the potential criticism of EB was in the past. Big difference.

That whole free speech and freedom of religion thing is a major problem. Darn that Mac, trying to make the world a better place.

We have an entire thread on this (like 20 pages) in the politics/relgion forum. It's my opinion that this issue isn't as simple as you'd make here. I'd be interested in hearing your opinon in that thread, though.
