Coaching carousel....

sounds like a stretch to me. from mister college game Joe Pa, to a position coach in the NFL?

Yup, established and well respected coaches are lining the streets of state college just hoping to get a sniff of that highly coveted job.

Whoever takes the job is going to be in a world of hurt. It is going to be very hard to salvage any kind of recruiting class this year. Future recruiting is going to be difficult with the stain of what has happened.

Making it a lot worse is that for political and PR reasons they are going to make a huge show of proving that the athletic department is under the thumb of the new administration instead of the AD running things without any oversight and in fact making decisions for the university.

This means that admissions are going to be much stricter and everything they do is going to have oversight from people who may not have much idea how athletics works.

They are also likely to see some major budget cuts as donations dry up due to the scandal of all this and the university starts to put away money against the legal cost and the probable huge settlements they are facing in the future.

Add to this the NCAA and the Big X sniffing around looking for an opportunity to prove that they are in charge. Sanctions would not be a surprise including scholarship cuts and a bowl ban. It is not outside of possibility that the NCAA would allow current players to transfer out without penalty.

Even in the best of circumstances following a legend is rarely a good situation, this one couldn't get much worse.

Chow has been rumored as a HC for a lot of jobs the last 10 years, but has never taken the leap. Interesting that he's doing it now. I suppose he probably has plenty of money, so he can afford the stooopid prices on the islands. This is probably a pretty good situation for him. And it helps us. Win-Win.

Norm Chow is an awful hire. The game has past him by evidenced by his disaster NFL time, UCLA and Utah.

Just an awful hire.

that would be so ****ing stupid if he accepts it

Could very well be a career ender.

Never good to follow a legend in the best of circumstances, these are the worst of circumstances.

With a little patience Peterson could have his choice of much better situations.

I listened to a radio interview with Barnett last week. According to Gary, Peterson is happy in Boise and would only leave for Oregon

Wink Martindale, the former Bronco DC, not the Tic Tac Dough guy, rumored to be the DC Jim McElwain may hire for the Goat D....

Charlie Strong is going to hire a new OC...apparently he has seen enough of Burrito Watson, who will go back to coaching the QB's.

Now PSU going after Saban.

Shoot, CSU and UCLA did a better job in its coaching search than PSU.

Ped State does have a more difficult task here. It's a premier job. What they don't get is that most coaches won't be able to ignore the issues surrounding boy rape and a cover-up as well as the PSU administrator and fans have.

Even without that, most coaches know that the the worst situation as a coach is to be the guy who follows the guy.
