Official Construction Update Thread

Nice Pix. Looks like they are about half done with the IPF external structure then. Is there evidence there will be a new bridge over Boulder Creek as part of this? I thought they were concerned about Dal Ward stairs dropping directly onto that road, and were thinking of moving the road further North at some point?

The new bridge is integrated with the plans for the "North Campus", but I'm not sure of the timing for it.

Expect to see a CU outdoor sports complex area that has Folsom and IPF on the south side of the creek with Potts and Prentup relocated to the north side of the creek... and a beautiful new bridge integrating the two.

Hopefully the idea is to lay things out somewhat similarly to what Stanford's got going on, because that ended up being a great scene for tailgating with all those sports fields together.

I saw no evidence of any construction that would involve a bridge at this point. I think that sidewalk is what we get for now.
 
CU needs another $4 million to finish the expansion, bringing the total to $160 million. Those with a better understanding of the construction world can say if this is normal or not for a job of this size. There do seem to have been a lot of delays and hopefully this thing is done by the first home game. I saw a note in one of the articles that the team is currently using the visiting locker room in Folsom until the new locker room is complete.

Cost over runs on a project of this scale do happen. I imagine this was budgeted for so its not a big deal. Pushing a team to finish and having them work 24 hour days does increase the cost. I would think that the home opener is a hard deadline that they must meet otherwise the contractor will owe some type of liquidated damages.

The locker room thing is kind of surprising to me. It was supposed to be done almost two weeks ago. Not sure what has caused the delay.
 
Pretty normal to carry a 10% contingency for changes. But, on the other hand, this is new construction which shouldn't have as many "unknowns." The big killer was the soil thing at the start. Other than that, $4 million on a $150 million project isn't bad.
 
I think DBT hit it on the head. The soils issue had a ripple effect that pushed up the cost of everything afterwards. $4MM on a $150MM project is not a a big deal. That won't keep the Boulder morons from claiming that $4MM could be better spent elsewhere, as if there's this big pot of money that isn't earmarked for anything that can be used for anything they want.
 
From my perspective, I like the extra $4 million. It's a lot easier to remember an even $160 MM. :lol:
 
For those that are on Twitter, Coach AJ Baer is tweeting out multiple videos of the players being introduced to the new lockerrooms. Pretty cool.

News 4 was there and Falo, I'm pretty sure it was him, said "I want to sleep in here and I want to cry, to be honest." Haha.

Just saw the video. News 4 showed some snippets of the video.

What's "combative and negative" about this piece? It seems to more or less just be stating that there is more money needed and not only for the athletic facilities but others on campus as well. To me negative would be directly or indirectly stating that the athletic facilities are a waste of money, etc. I didn't get that from the article.

Now certainly there are many people in Boulder who would oppose construction of new athletic facilities, but that's not coming out in this article.

Its written from a negative stance. Sarah Kuta has been anti-facilities since the project was announced. Its a non story anyway. Its written to rile up the anti athletics population of Boulder.

The original construction budget was 143M, there is typically a 10% contingency built in to construction budgets. That would have taken the cost to 157.3M. The new project budget was 156M after they discovered the poor soil conditions. So 10% contingency for the new budget is 171.6M. So 4M overrun is really not outside the planned cost anyway.

Look, the CU Admin supported the new construction, despite their seemingly contentious relationship with football. Maybe they can back off on their 420 stance and these haters can be happy too.

I agree with MarkW on this. Grandjacques on the BDC is always anti CU, especially the athletic department. You could publish a story in which a football player cured leukemia and he'd complain about it.
