Leavitt to FSU (or not - UO backs up a Brinks truck)

You always give 100% to what you are doing. Until you don't do it.

He isn't dishonest - he is just a mercenary. I don't fault him for that.

So telling recruits that he will be the next CU coach when Mac is fired isn't dishonest or misleading? This is like the old George Costanza line, "It's not a lie if you believe it."

I'm confused. What's actually going on with Leavitt? Speculation he'll leave?

Since Taggert has moved on from Oregon, it really depends on who they hire as head coach. It could be Leavitt. Most are speculating it will be someone else, in which case it seems highly likely that Leavitt will need to move someplace.

Leavitt’s “I want to stay in Oregon” spiel is just him hedging. He’s

Nothing official. Speculation that he’s hoping Oregon names him HC - have to imagine he is a little pee pee hurt about Cristobal being named interim HC. If they keep Cristobal or hire someone else, I imagine Leavitt follows Taggart.

Oregon’s 247 guy says Leavitt is gone, just a matter of time.

leavitt came to CU because he saw a hc on the hot seat and a chance to make some noise on defense with some talented upperclassmen. leavitt wants to be a hc again. when CU won 10 last year, that closed off leavitt's path to the hc job here, so he left for more money at oregon. he also chose oregon because they were bringing in a .500 new hc and it could be an opportunity for him to get the hc job there in a season or 2. now that taggart has moved on, leavitt will put his name in for the hc job at oregon. if he doesn't get it, then he will take the money and go to fsu. again, in the hopes that helps move him back into an hc role.

none of this is that hard to figure out.

I never said he wasn't an asshole. People were reacting negatively to a cheerleader text he sent about OU when they thought he may be leaving for FSU.

So if Leavitt doesn't get the oregon HC job, that would make two programs in just a few years he joined betting he could be the HC in short order and two bets he lost on.

Actually, he came here because he was unemployed and wasn’t able to get any HC interest. He knew Mike and came here to have a job.

He took Colorado job to rehab his image. Had to work in the college game to be considered for HC job. We gave him that chance.

He took the Oregon job for cash and probably because CU was about to step back. The Oregon defense couldn't go backwards.

Both were good timing and steps towards a HC job. Neither presented likely opportunities to "take over". He's looking for his final payday, as he should!

3 games when it was the beginning of the Mac era immediately after Embree isn't exactly the most representative sample size...

Exactly. The suckage of the Buffs when Sparkles was in Ft Collins can't be overstated.

There are elements in his contract that may make Leavitt stay at UO until January, then head off to FSU. That’s what everyone expects.

However, Leavitt really wants to be head coach and maybe he sees staying at OU as the best path for that. Stay one more year, then see what pops up, possibly at Kansas State. I believe his wife and kids are still living in Boulder fwiw (good choice since Eugene is such a complete dump).

Personally, I think he has a better chance of landing a good HC job west of the Mississippi than east of it.

He just posted a few days ago how the players mean the most to him and how he wants to make sure they can go out a winner. It’s nice that he could evolve to that position after ****ing our seniors last year.

I’ve heard this a few times in various threads and I have to wonder if people who say this have ever been to Eugene. I think it’s a pretty nice town. Parts of it are comparable to boulder. Good food, things to do, great parks and natural amenities, top notch mountain biking nearby. I honestly don’t get the Eugene is a dump thing. Sure some parts on the outskirts are methy and trashy, but boulder has Longmont.

Please explain why you think Eugene sucks so bad?

Cuz OU, err...UO?

I lived there for a couple of years while my wife finished up her bachelors degree in the early 90s. She did her first two years at Southern Oregon in Ashland, which is awesome.

My wife experienced two sex assaults, both somewhat minor in nature, but seemed to typify our experience there. Once she got the hand up the skirt at a bar full frontal grab, and another time she got her breast squeezed by a biker on the paved biking path that follows the Willamette. Both were likely students.

We lived in a house near Skinner Butte Park, a couple of blocks from the steelhead brewery. Nice park except all the scumbags hanging out. Got so bad with people having open sex that it was a big newspaper issue because families complained.

Almost every underpass had a collection of homeless teens and twenty somethings gathered below, sheltering from the rain. They were like pack animals not to be approached.

The mill workers from Springfield did not mesh with students or others from Eugene. It always created an uneasy tension if the populations mixed at a bar or event. I saw more beatings in my first month there than the prior four in Boulder.

Homeless were literally pitching tents and living on the quad.

Major heroin issue with the students and town. I saw almost zero H in Boulder during my time there (plenty of acid, mushrooms, weed, and some coke). Party scene was much seedier than anything I'd experienced before.

Weather is awful and depressing. Always gray. I lived in Seattle for awhile, and that's livable. Eugene is not.

People regularly wore masks to deal with overwhelming amounts of pollen.

Terrible burning smell from the mills in Springfield.

Campus is uninspiring at best, but in my eyes was ugly. Town was mostly developed in the 1950s to 1970s and predominant architecture reflects the period, in a bad way.

The town is located three hours from anything (far from city, far from water, far from mountains/skiing).

I lived there 25 years ago, so I presume much may have changed, but I'd rate it dead last of all the places I've lived.

I did meet some nice people and have maintained a few friendships, plus wife got her degree in the major she wanted (that Southern Oregon did not have).

So, except for a few minor things, it sounds pretty awesome!

Ashland to inland Florida? What did you do to deserve that?

I can't say half of what Creebuzz said, but I did go to Eugene when the Buffs played there a handful of years ago...where we got destroyed...

Aside from the ****ty game, I found Eugene to be incredibly drab. The weather sucked, the campus wasn't really architecturally interesting, the bars in and about the town weren't that great, the pregame scene wasn't too impressive, etc. Of all the college towns that I've visited for CU road games, I'd say Eugene and Columbus were the most disappointing. Part of it was that I was expecting more from the towns, but both were just bland. At least OSU had a great pregrame scene, with a lot of excited people, and the college campus was at least...ok. Oregon just wasn't impressive in any way to me. It's not the worst college campus/town, but ... ...it's not cool, or even mediocre, in my opinion.

Has there been an official announcement on Taggart's staff?

Appears not and Taggart is traveling to see recruits with held over coaches from Jimbo who are coaching the bowl.

Jimbo's as well hasn't said much.

I don't really think a lot of his staff would be good fits at FSU. Cristobal would have been a perfect OC for them and Leavitt is likely headed there after he didn't get the head coaching job but Salave'a, Heyward, Johnson and Arroyo are all west coast guys. I would think Raymond Woodie, Pimblemton and Clark would all be candidates to join him and Leavitt at FSU though.

He's probably a candidate here if our job pops open next year.....I thought I heard Keith Heyward was talking to Jonathan Smith about going back to OSU?

I wonder why people think JL would even be considered here, if, the job became open?
