Official Spring Practice Thread

Yeah, I understand. And I have no problem with any offensive scheme if it works, I just have a problem if it moves into the territory of gimmicky playing fast, if that makes sense. You still have to get first downs for playing fast to do anything. Creating mismatches and exploiting weaknesses is still more important than just tiring the opposition.

I hope I didn't portray that I am advocating a run heavy plodding offense, as you have to have the offensive line for that (and we clearly don't ). I just think playing too fast without results can get you into an insurmountable defecit and get you blown out as easily (if not more easily) as it can give you the advantage.

I'm sure they have a plan, I doubt it will be lightning warfare the entire time. I'm just expecting a more aggressive team with a more efficient, but yet similar to last year, tempo. I can't imagine they are going for the Chip Kelly style blitzkrieg

Not as good as him saying it's the best OL he's had in years! In all seriousness, saying he feels much better at least signifies he had some reservations about the OL going into Spring. I'll take it.
 
Watched the scrimmage last night with a focus on the line play. I came away really optimist.

On D,Sami had me LOL a few times. He has virtually no technique but he's huge and really active. His upside is enormous.

Did you tape it? My DVR did not tape it for some reason. Is there any other way to get a video of the full scrimmage? I can only find the highlights online.

Drake seems like a perfect coach for Sami as he appears incredibly focused on technique and energy!

Leach has only had 2 seasons as a head coach with less than 6 wins, both of those are WSU. TTU hit 8 wins or more 8 times and WSU has now done it 3 in a row. Art Briles won a ton of games at **** Bailer with the Air Raid. Lincoln Riley had success with Air Raid concepts at OU this year (also had a generational college QB).

Mike Leach won at the rest area schools of each conference. Texas Tech and Washington State are the most out of the way places there is in each conference. I have always wondered if Alabama or LSU had Leach and the talent and coaching on Defense (even Bo Pelini!!!) that both have had for the last decade, if they would both be kicking the piss out of people by 80 points. Nothing beats the days of Spurrier and Florida showing people how to run up the scores!!! If you don't like it, stop us!

How does the Air Raid splits help or hurt the Offensive Linemen? Since we all agree that the OL is our biggest question mark, how does that matter to them?
 
If the Buffs score a bunch Chev is gonna be allbuffs new hero regardless of the offense scheme.
 
After leaving CU, Chev played for another seven years for 3 NFL and 1 arena team. Started coaching the next year at Mt. SAC in CA for a couple years, then moved to Riverside CC for 3 or 4 years - OC and WRs, I think. Then hired by TT, where he was special teams dude one year, and WRs coach his second year. Then he was hired by the Buffs.

Yeah, the red raiders kept the offense, but The Pirate had been gone five years before Chev arrived in Lubbock. I have a hard time thinking those two years in Asshole, Texas made as much of an impression on him as some seem to. He came from there, sure, but he's not of Texas Tech. Using some wrinkles from an offense he coached under that fit some of his current players makes plenty of sense; revamping the CU offense to force a likeness to those two years doesn't, IMO. We shall see.
