2023 Transfer Portal

I think I posted early on that we were going to sh!t the bed because MBB doesn't know how to do the transfer thing. And again, it doesn't help that RG could care less about hoops.
* couldn't

I can’t find the exact quote but several years back Tad said he wouldn’t add grad transfers because they’re not serious students who are actually interested in the grad programs and are only going to schools to play basketball. I’d say Tad not knowing how to do the transfer thing is a severe understatement.

That sounds made up. We had two (disappointing) grad transfers this last year. We’ve had several successful transfers, Derrick White probably being the best of them. The transfer game is a whole new world the last 3 years with the rules changing and the bonus Covid year though.

“But a lot of these graduate transfers really have no interest in graduate school, and you’re renting a player for six months in the guise of getting a graduate degree. That’s not what we’re about.”

I stand corrected, but you way oversold it, and conveniently left off the first sentence of the quote:

"If he’s a legitimate student who really wants to get a graduate degree and wants to play basketball, absolutely we’re going to look at him."

The transfer world has also radically changed since 2018 when that quote is from.

I’m pretty sure Tad has realized that the world and his own mgmt have changed course on that. That was a Phil D philosophy until he got bitch slapped by the fan base.

We couldn’t afford the UNC (Greeley) guy who got there via a JUCO via Thornton. The market does speak. Wow.
The transfer portal sites have Knecht 100% going to Oregon. The NIL has removed the amateur aspect from college sports. Hope we can get McMillian or RJ Luis now. Otherwise we better pray Ruffin gets and stays healthy.

Luis, pleeeaassee. Not convinced on McMillian.

My preference too, I like his size, but what do we know. "McMillian has already visited Utah and he is also considering interest from Illinois, Texas Tech and Virginia". Luis has interest too from high majors.

He shoots it fine. He would've been tied for third on our team last year. He's also boards, plays D and is a matchup problem for opponents.
He made 16 threes all season...I like him as a player, but he doesn't really offer what we need right now.

Its not improbable that Hammond and LOB regain their 3 pt shooting touch from a year ago. And hopefully Hadley is working on shots more than 5' away.

This will be another NIL battle. I don't think there's a chance here. HOWEVER, do what it takes scholarship wise to make it happen if it's even a remote possibility. Hard to think of a better fit

Can't argue with a kid taking the $$ when he can but I think that Prime has the right answer for a lot of kids.

For most the NIL money doesn't compare to NFL money and who is a better choice for getting a guy into position to be drafted highly?

Again it depends on the kid but if a guy has a dream of playing in the league then Prime has something for him to look at.
