Wanted to start this thread to report on any scheduling, roster or other interesting news that pop up for the soccer team as they're now around 1-1/2 months from their scheduled unofficial season opener August 14th with an exhibition match at the Air Force Academy, followed up by a home match against the Rams on Aug. 19th. (Haven't noticed this happening before, but the AFA match DOES count as a Colorado Cup match even though it won't count as an official match in the win and loss column.)

To start with, this season's schedule has just been announced-

BOULDER – Colorado soccer is set to return this fall with a complete 19-game schedule. The Buffaloes will play nine matches at Prentup Field and will have 10 total matches broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.

Colorado, coming off its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance, will open the season with an exhibition at Air Force (Aug. 14). The match against the Falcons marks the return of the Colorado Cup. The Colorado Cup has not been challenged since the 2018 season. CU has won the cup five times since its inception in 2011.

CU's first official match of the season will be the second leg of the Colorado Cup, hosting Colorado State on Aug. 19. The third and final Colorado Cup match for the Buffs will be on Aug. 22 against Colorado College in Denver. It will be CU's first game against the Tigers since its 1-0 double-overtime win in 2017.

The Buffs will close out the month of August with a marquee matchup against 2020 national runner-up, Florida State (Aug. 29). It will be the third meeting between the two schools and the Seminole's first visit to Boulder.
Colorado has a packed September, starting with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU on Sept. 2. The Buffs return to Prentup Field for a pair of matches against Stony Brook (Sept. 5) and Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 9). The team then makes its first visit to Purdue since 2011 to take on the Boilermakers on Sept. 12, before closing out the non-conference season with a visit to Denver on Sep. 19.

CU opens the 11 game Pac-12 season on the road in Berkley, Calif., taking on the Bears on Sept. 25.

The Silver and Gold's home conference schedule features Washington (Sept. 30), Washington State (Oct. 3), Stanford (Oct. 17), Oregon (Oct. 21) and Oregon State (Oct. 24).

The remaining road slate includes stops at Southern California (Oct. 7), UCLA (Oct. 10), Arizona State (Oct. 28), Arizona (Oct. 31) and Utah (Nov. 5).

Season tickets are available now at CUBuffs.com/Tickets or 303-492-8337.

Off the top of my head, this season the Buffs will host the fewest number of home matches in years. Only 4 on the non-conference schedule and then 5 in conference. However, they will play 3 non-conference games in Colorado (2 at DU and one at Air Force).

Looks like the official roster hasn't been updated with the newcomers yet.

Wanted to mention #ForeverBuff Joss Orejel has become a fixture on Mexico's National Team, and is in the starting lineup (at left back) for tonight's tough Pre-Olympic tune-up friendly against the #1 ranked U.S. team. (Coverage on FS1 starting at 5:30 PM MT. They are also playing each other on the 5th, with both matches being played in Hartford Connecticut.)

(Believe I've read that she's also already slotted to be with the team at the Olympics.)

Congrats to Ms. Sharts!

AUSTIN, Texas - Colorado defender Hannah Sharts garnered one last accolade to close out her junior season. The rising senior was First Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Monday.

The selection marks the first time a CU soccer player has been bestowed Academic All-American honors.

Sharts previously added to her postseason awards, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District, United Soccer Coaches Second Team Scholar All-America and First Team All-West Region. The Newbury Park, Calif., native, completed her undergrad this past spring in communications and is pursuing a Master's in organizational leadership with a 4.0 GPA.

She enjoyed her best season on the field in the spring, totaling four goals early on in the season. She recorded back-to-back game-winners against Northern Colorado and Weber State and added goals in CU's win at No. 10 California and Stanford. She finished second on the team with nine points, assisting on the game-winning goal at Utah.

The 5-11 defender led CU in minutes (1,574) this season and started every match. Sharts, a team captain this season, was a large presence on CU's youthful backline. She helped the Buffs record eight total shutouts on the way to Colorado's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.

She was earlier selected First Team All-Conference and All-Pacific Region. Sharts was also the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 15) and was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week for April 13.

The Buffaloes will turn their attention to the 2021 season in a matter of weeks. CU will head to Air Force for an exhibition match to open the Colorado Cup on Aug. 14. The team's first regular-season match is set for Aug. 19 against Colorado State at Prentup Field.

The roster has been updated on the official site with the newcomers, although there are not bios for the freshmen. Looks like the only other keeper on the roster other than Dani Hansen is freshman Bella Grust. Also, transfer Haley Stodden is listed as a defender, but I believe she will play at forward.

Also, I can't find where soccer's media day press conference from yesterday was ever released separately, so wanted to link to the below video which presents ALL the press conferences for all the sports. Soccer was one of the last presentations, so interested folk will need to fast forward to around the 2 hour and 26 minute point to watch the soccer portion. (That soccer portion goes to ~ the 2 hour and 41 minute point.)

One (or two) pieces of bad news near the beginning of the presser was that Coach Sanchez said that senior Hannah Cardenas and sophomore Jenny Beyer, both of whom would have been probable starters this year if healthy, will both be missing this season after sustaining injuries (late in last spring's delayed season). Wish them only the best, and that they recover fully and as fast as possible.

And, finally, I didn't see it before, so wanted to post here the live stats link for tonight's scrimmage at the Air Force Academy - http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=354059

USAFA, Colo.— The Colorado Buffaloes opened the 2021 Colorado Cup with a 2-0 win at Air Force on Saturday night. The game was played as an exhibition but will count towards Colorado's points in the Cup standings.

"It felt like a real game," head coach Danny Sanchez explained after the match. "It was great to get everyone a lot of minutes. Everyone played at least 45 minutes and most played 50 or 60 minutes over the 90 minutes plus the 20 minutes of extra time [added at the end of the exhibition]. That was great to get a really good look at everyone."

Sophomore Rachel Rosen got the evening started early on for the Buffs, tallying the game's first goal in the seventh minute. Colorado's second goal came in the 61st minute, thanks to a fantastic feed by sophomore Shyra James to senior Shanade Hopcroft.

All available players got to see action on Saturday, meaning a majority of the fresh faces will now have one collegiate game under their belts before Thursday's season-opener against Colorado State.

"I think they [freshmen] all did great," Rosen noted. "Bell [Grust] did amazing in goal. All of them did great. Honestly, I think we have a lot to work on as a team, but they did a good job in the first game. It's always hard."

Junior Dani Hansen started the match in net for the Buffs. She stopped the only shot she faced in the first half before giving way to freshman Bella Grust. Grust started the second half and made one save to preserve the shutout.

Hopcroft and junior Allie Palangi led the team with two shots apiece. The Buffs closed the night doubling up the Falcons 10-5 in shots.

Colorado and Denver were the only two teams to pull out a win on the opening day of the Colorado Cup. The Pioneers get the advantage over the Buffs in goal differential, defeating Colorado College 3-1.

The Buffs continue Colorado Cup play at home against CSU on Thursday (4 p.m.) and will close the challenge against Colorado College next Sunday in Denver (Noon).
