They're on the road in Seattle for this meet. (Any Buff indoor home meets (there were 2 earlier this season) the last few years have been at the IPF (Indoor (football) Practice Facility), which included a built in nice and fast 300M track as part of its construction.)

The top 2 Highlights from yesterday's action to me were Avery McMullen breaking another (already held by her) school record in the 60 meter hurdles, and Ella Baran shattering her PR in the women's 5000M with a time that jumps her up to 8th in this season's TFRRS performance records. Being that high in the records with only a day or 2 of the qualifying period remaining, I'd guess she's probably pretty safely into the NCAA Indoor Championships. In addition, men's multi-eventer Nick Bianco, who at least per the top 10 listing I found (which hasn't been updated since last May), may have already set the Buff record with 5,547 points in a heptathlon held in Spokane the beginning of this month, looks to be ~80 points ahead after today's 1st day of competition compared to what he scored in Spokane the 1st day.

McMullen Breaks Own School Record in Seattle

By: Colin Wagner, CU Athletic Communications Associate

SEATTLE, Wash. –
The Colorado Buffaloes men's and women's track and field teams finished day one of the Ken Shannon Last Chance here at Dempsey Indoor on Friday.

Avery McMullen continued her impressive season, extending her school record in the 60-meter hurdles for a second-place finish. She improved her previous mark by 0.03 seconds for a new record of 8.18.

Nicholas Bianco leads the Buffs in the men's heptathlon, sitting in seventh place with 2,951 points. He is followed by John Swabik in ninth and Drake Miller in 12th while Troy Colleran is in fifth as an unattached athlete. The men's heptathlon continues tomorrow with the 60 hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter.

Eva Bruce was the only Buff to compete in the women's pentathlon and she finished in eighth place. She set a new personal best in the 60 hurdles, her first event of the day. Bruce finished the action by placing third in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:24.44.

In other runs on the day, Ian Gilmore and Emma Pollak both placed third in their respective 200-meter races. In the men's 200, Luc Andrada also finished in fifth, not far behind Gilmore.

Prior to the 200 sprints, Ella Baran set a personal record in the 5,000-meter, crushing her previous best by about seven seconds. Her new PR time in the event is 15:26.66.

Colorado fared well in the men's and women's weight throws, having multiple athletes secure top-10 finishes. Isabella Braun and Amanda Opp finished fourth and fifth on the women's side while Matt Ward and Isaiah Bouchard went five and six on the men's side.

In the long jumps, Aidan Christiansen placed sixth for the men and Kara Lucyk finished fifth for the women as they were both the only Buffs to compete in the events.

Action continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT when the men's shot put and men's 60 hurdles kick off the day.

Article after the last day of the regular season, with 2 more school records going down - https://cubuffs.com/news/2024/2/24/...-womens-4x400-breaks-school-record-in-seattle

3 (hopefully***) Buffs will now be heading to the NCAA Indoor Championships being held in a couple weeks, while I assume everyone else will be switching over to outdoor mode. (The 1st outdoor meet is scheduled for March 15-16, the Buffs own Jerry Quiller Classic.)
(*** It's looking to me like most if not all the major conference meets are completed, so hopefully she's safe, but Abbey Glynn's 400M time has slipped to #15 in the NCAA, with only the top 16 who accept entry qualifying for the Championships. I believe technically times earned today do count for qualifying purposes, but don't know if there are any significant meets are left.)

Bianco and Women’s 4x400 Breaks School Record in Seattle

By: Herman Shelton, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

SEATTLE, Wash. –
The Colorado Buffaloes Track and Field team concluded day two of the Ken Shannon "Last Chance" meet with record-breaking performances on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Field House.

Emma Pollak, Avery McMullen, Joy Moorer, and Abbey Glynn combined for a remarkable time of 3:35.63, shattering CU's women's 4x400 indoor school record previously held by Valerie Welch, Dani Johnson, Eriana Henderson, and Gabby Scott since Feb. 9, 2019, at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas.

Glynn continued her dominant indoor season, clinching first place in the 400-m event with a powerful surge in the final 100-meters, securing victory over USC's Madison Whyte and Jan'Taijah Jones, who had surged ahead at the start. Glynn remained undefeated in all her individual races during the indoor season.

Nicholas Bianco showcased a spectacular performance on day two, claiming first-place in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 5.05m, a personal best. Additionally, he triumphed in the 60-m hurdles and secured a fourth-place finish in the 1k run, accruing a total of 5651 points and breaking his previous record of 5547. Despite starting the day in 8th place after a challenging first day, Bianco's determination prevailed, leading to personal bests in the 60-m dash (7.26) and shot put (11.82m) for a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon.

In the shot put Lucas Williams threw a personal best 15.01m to secure a seventh place finish in the shot put. While Noah Bouchard secured a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.05m. Grady Rauba finished 18th in the 61-man field, running a personal best 4:06.47. Lukas Haug (4:08.14), Wilson Georges (4:08.29) and Noah Hibbard (4:09.18) finished 25th, 26th and 30th respectively. In the 30-man field Cole Romig finished 11th running a personal best 48.16. Ben Green recorded a third-place finish with a personal best time of 1:49.65. Jacob Culig (1:53.85) finished in ninth.

On the women's side, Katie Doucette achieved a personal best time of 4:49.59, finishing 14th in the mile event, while Whitney Valenti clocked a season-best time of 4:55.01, securing 20th place . Allie Routledge and Avery McMullen clinched the top two spots in the high jump.

Up Next:

The Buffs will find out tomorrow who will participate in the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., March 8-9. As of the latest update, Abbey Glynn holds the 14th position in the 400-m event, while Ella Baran ranks 8th in the 5000-m race and Avery McMullen sits at 6th place in the Pentathlon standings. Barring any changes, these athletes are poised to qualify for Indoor Championships.

The conclusion of the indoor season begins in a couple days with the NCAA Championships scheduled to be competed in Boston MA, with the 1st Buff in action beginning early Friday at 7:50 AM MT. (The meet is being held at the ~1-2 year old "Track at new balance", and I believe is formally hosted by Boston College and UMass - Lowell.)

As noted previously and in the thread title, looks like 3 Buffs (All women) have qualified for these Championships.

Note - Just by qualifying for and participating at the Championships, I believe everyone at the Championships (don't know if they need to finish their event or not?) qualify for All-American status, with the top 8 finishers in each event designated 1st Team and the 9-16 finishers 2nd Team All-Americans.

Go Buffs!!!

Ella Baran (5,000-meters), Abbey Glynn (400-meters) and Avery McMullen (pentathlon) will represent the Buffs after qualifying in their respective events. The three athletes will earn All-American status, with the top eight earning first team All-American honors and the ninth through 16th athletes earning second team honors.

Barran makes her second consecutive NCAA indoor appearance in the 5,000-meters, she finished 15th last season, running the fourth-best time in CU history in Boston at 15:33.72. She opened her season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season opener recording a 15:38.29 mark, leaving her just outside of the top 16. She made her qualifying time 15:25.66 at the Ken Shannon Last Chance meet in Seattle, the new fourth best time in CU history. That time was the ninth best time this season in the NCAA. The grad student made three NCAA appearances, cross country in 2022 and 5,000-m indoor and outdoor in 2023 racking up two All-American honors.

McMullen is set to participate in her third consecutive NCAA indoor appearance in the Pentathlon, now boasting five total NCAA appearances. She secured her spot by achieving the qualifying mark at the USATF Indoor Combined Event Championships recording 4,235 points, setting a new CU record. She will have the seventh best mark in the NCAA. McMullen logged a stellar indoor season, recording 13 first-place finishes. She made waves breaking a 41-year long jump record previously held by former CU great Annette Tannander. She previously broke Tannander's Pentathlon record last season and broke it again at the USATF Indoor Combined Event Championships.

Glynn is gearing up for her debut appearance at the indoor NCAA Championship, set to compete in the 400-meter dash. While this marks her first indoor appearance, Glynn participated in three outdoor NCAA Championships, where she excelled in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay events. Her qualifying time 51.77 (51.88 after conversion), a new Buff record. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 52.34 held by Gabby Scott since February 22, 2019. She has maintained an impressive unbeaten streak in individual races this season, winning all six she's participated in. Glynn broke the 600-yard run record with a time of 1:18.19. This record had stood for 47 years, previously held by Lee Ballenger with a time of 1:21.60. Glynn achieved this feat at the Jarvis Scott Open, where she also surpassed Gabby Scott's 400-meter race record.

The 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships take place Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9, at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts, and will air on the ESPN family of networks. This marks the inaugural occasion of Boston hosting the indoor championships, with both the men's and women's competitions being held concurrently. The top 16 qualifying athletes in individual men's and women's events, as well as combined events, and the top 12 relay teams including distance medley relay (DMR) and 4x400 (4x4) have been chosen, taking into account any scratches.

Big congrats to Avery McMullen, as it looks like she has broken her own school record in the pentathlon after earning 4,259 points at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and has earned 1st Team All-American status with an 8th place finish!

Buffs' Indoor Season Comes to a Close in Boston

By: Colin Wagner, CU Athletic Communications Associate

BOSTON, Mass. –
The indoor track and field season concluded for the Colorado Buffaloes at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts here on Friday as the Buffs had three women compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Avery McMullen began the day finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles, the first event of the pentathlon, with a time of 8.24. She then went on to record 10th-place finishes in the high jump and shot put before getting back on track with a fifth-place finish in the long jump. To finish out the pentathlon, McMullen placed sixth in the 800-meters.

McMullen's final score in the pentathlon rounded out to a new personal best of 4259 which was an eighth-place score in Boston. Her performance earned her All-American First Team honors in the pentathlon for the first time in her career as she concluded a historic season for the Buffs.

Next up for Colorado was Abbey Glynn in the 400-meter race. She had just set her personal record in the event a few weeks back at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas with a time of 51.77. In her NCAA Track and Field Championships debut here Friday, she finished in 52.57 for a ninth-place finish, just missing out on qualifying for the finals race on Saturday. Glynn's ninth-place finish in the 400 makes her an All-American Second Team athlete.

Ella Baran was the last Buff to compete here in Boston, taking part in the 5,000-meter. She set her personal best in the 5,000 at Colorado's final meet of the indoor season, the Ken Shannon Last Chance, which qualified her for the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Indoor Championships last year, Baran placed 15th in the 5,000, however, she saw improvement this year, finishing 12th in 15:38.72 to earn All-American Second Team honors.

The three women represented the Black and Gold well here on the biggest stage in Boston and will look to continue their great success this outdoor season in the weeks ahead. The Buffs' first meet of the outdoor season, the Jerry Quiller Classic, will take place at home in Boulder on March 15-16.
