CU officially hires Mel Tucker as new Head Football Coach

are we going to immediately start pulling 4 and 5 stars from sec territory, no, probably not. and georgia produces waaaaaay more than its share of truly elite prospects so it isn't apples to apples. but, again, watch tucker's videos. the man is inspiring, fiery, tough, and a winner. and he has years and years of experience under the best coaches in college football. you know who that reminds me of? one Coach Mac. and, remember something else, coach Tucker is going to bring in footprint guys and he will help us recruit nationally and including maybe pulling a few guys every year from sec territory. that is a big deal.

this is a great ****ing hire. the UNICORN has landed. and, the staff is going to reflect our desire to go big. watch. we're not ****ing around anymore. it is time to retake our rightful place in college football's upper class. picture a mean, intense, attacking defense causing usc to quit like the soft skill guys they are. i see that in the future.

Folks. Don't get too excited. I have no idea if Tucker is good or bad. But the fact of the matter is, he comes from a conference where the football players are allowed to fill out their college applications with a crayon. It all depends on how well he can recruit. I'm all for CU going down the road of hookers, cash and unlimited pot; at least the last item is legal. If you think that this guy can get the same level of talent to come to Boulder that you see in the SEC, the AD and the school are going to have to turn a blind eye to many things that Tucker probably believes is simply business as usual. How many of you really think that will happen?

So it starts...

That is what tonight is for.

Yeah, but you can’t assume tonight is a formality, without talking before, that would be dumb. The AD is about to commit 15-20 mill to this guy, if RG’s already set on him before hashing the details out, he’d be an idiot. They might not like each other, his staff plans might not make sense. And Tucker’d be an idiot on his end. If this rumor is real, they’ve talked already.

You’re an idiot.

What kind of crayons would you recommend, Crayola?:D

Georgia fan here. You guys just got a great coach. I hate to lose him but we all pretty much knew it was just a matter of time before he landed a head coaching job. He is going to be a great coach because he really has no weaknesses in my opinion. He is 1) a great recruiter, the best recruiter in the SEC perhaps; 2) an excellent X’s and O’s coach; 3) very good with player development and getting the most out of all his guys, whether they be 3 stars or 5 stars; 4) an awesome motivator who gets his team fired up, and you can tell they really want to play for him; and 5) a good person who won’t get involved in any scandals or off the field issues. Now obviously the main question is who he brings in as OC but I definitely would just trust his judgement here. I think there will be a lot of good offensive minds out there that will want to coach for him. And I believe his style will be to hire an OC he really believes in and then just let him do his thing without micromanaging or meddling in the offense too much. I think you guys are really going to be impressed with his recruiting; he has been largely responsible for us being in the top 3 in recruiting the last several years and closing the gap on Bama. I’ll be interested to see how highly rated of a class he can pull in for you next year. I’m excited for him and for you guys too!
I’m going to need to call a doctor now. This post is the best cure for erectile disfunction ever!

If UGA pulls this off today (winning at half) then does he coach them in the playoff?

yes, reports are that he will coach as long as uga is playing this year. that said, he can still do some really critical stuff for us-- like hiring the staff and closing any wafflers amongst our recruits, etc. this is not a problem. when a UNICORN appears, you let the UNICORN come to you, you don't try to force the UNICORN.

Yeah. And we went from a 10-2 regular season to two straight 5-7 seasons. Were we wrong?
There’s a contingent on here that doesn’t care about that. And while he did not move to a HC job, it could be argued that he’s not doing good where he is (looking at it from CU’s side, not UGA’s).

Blow me.

It’s a legit a concern. Is he a closer when a booster doesn’t walk in with a decent contribution to the family’s church? I don’t know. It is different in the SEC.

no, no it is not a legit concern. we're not aspiring to be uga. we aren't in the sec. we don't have the greatest recruiting footprint in the nation in our backyard. this isn't about any of those things. watch.some.tape. and then tell me he's not inspiring, fiery, tough, and a closer. this man can coach and recruit. he's got the experience, the talent, and the personality to be elite. will he be here? who knows... but the pieces are coming into place. we don't have to hand out envelopes of cash to compete in the p12. i don't understand why anyone wouldn't be excited about the potential of this hire. it is a ****ing huge step up in quality over any thing we've managed since gb was hired.

dead period starts december 17, so he basically has 2 weeks to work for us before he goes back to athens for christmas and to work on the playoff gameplan. this is gonna work out just fine.

Serious question: Can he sign a contract to be CU’s HC, work for the Buffs for a few weeks but then go back and also still be under contract and/or coach for Georgia? I feel like it would be against the rules to be employed by two different universities, but I don’t actually know.

He will likely sign the CU contract several weeks from now.

I’m sure there are succession rules in place that would allow for it.

Edit: Or what Duff said.

I have counted three times where Brad Nessler and co have talked about Mel Tucker and the rumors that he will be the head coach at Colorado. Whether the rumors turn out to be correct or not, i like the free press the buffs are getting.

Somehow some of you guys think there is no in between Georgia's recruiting level and our current level.
Preach! Lots of space between being 40th best and the best.

If Tucker takes us to #20 classes on average, that's still a long way from where Georgia is at. I hope people get that. The level the Dawgs are at is so far beyond that. Not that you can't win with #20 classes, but it's not like the Top 3 classes where UGA is where you can expect that every class is gong to put 5 or more guys into the NFL. But inside that Top 25, you build the depth you need to compete with those elites and you can have those seasons where you have the right QB and you beat those elites.

Can you refer me some youtubes where he doesn’t sound like most coaches? I’m serious, I’ve watched the top 4 results, and he’s not blowing me away.

And regardless, SEC recruiting is different. Their are mechanisms around the programs that don’t translate out West. So, I standby the concern.
