BOULDER — After opening the season with an overtime win at home against Louisville on February 11, the University of Colorado lacrosse team hits the road for its first contest away from home this season on Sunday, February 20, against Harvard.

The two teams will square off at 12 p.m. ET, 10 a.m. MT, in Cambridge, Mass. The contest is the season opener for the Crimson; it's also the first game for HU since 2000. The Ivy League canceled the 2021 spring sports season due to the pandemic.

This is the second meeting between the two teams. The Buffaloes hosted Harvard in the second game of the 2020 season (February 21). CU won the contest, 9-7, at Kittredge Field and finished the 2020 campaign with a 3-2 mark, while HU would record a 3-3 record that season.

Two of Harvard's goal scorers from the game against CU in 2020, Charlotte Clark and Grace Hulslander, are still on the roster. Each scored one goal against the Buffaloes; Clark had one assist for two points. Olivia Gill led both teams with four caused turnovers also returns, as does Shea Jenkins, who recorded a team-best four draw controls. There will be a different face in net as Grace Rotondo, who made 12 saves, is not listed on the roster.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Playing its first road game of the season, the Colorado lacrosse team put together an impressive win against Harvard at Jordan Field, defeating the Crimson, 12-6, on Sunday.

The Buffaloes led 3-2 after the first quarter, but a strong 4-1 run in the second quarter gave them a 7-3 advantage heading into halftime. CU's defense held Harvard to just three more goals in the remaining 30 minutes while the offense continued to score, adding another five to secure the victory.

CU improved to 2-0 this season, while Harvard is 0-1.

"We are happy to get another win," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Overall I thought we committed to our systems and played hard. Defensively I thought we did a good job minus a couple ground balls and transitions we needed to finish. We did a good job on draws and that helped our effort a lot. We know we need to get better and need to play a cleaner game with less unforced turnovers. That hurt us today despite the outcome and we are capable of doing better. We are excited to be 2-0 but we have a lot of work to do and will focus in on those areas this week as we get ready for a good Ohio State team who is off to a strong start."

A trio of Buffs, Sadie Grozier, Charlie Rudy and Chloe Willard scored three goals. Willard also had one assist for four points, as did teammate Morgan Pence, who recorded a pair of goals and assists.

Grace Donnelly had another strong showing in net, making nine saves. Colorado did a great job limiting Harvard's opportunities, only allowing 18 shots and only 15 of those made it on goal.

UP NEXT: The Buffaloes return to Kittredge Field for their next three games. The first will be Sunday, Feb. 27, against Ohio State at 1 p.m.
